Types of music, screamo particularly?

right, so i was having a conversation with a friend, and they were having a go at me for likening screamo music, and saying that its for emos and shit, and that its really depressing music and that it make you want to go kill your self.

1. thats stereotyping in more than one way is it not?

(btw i'm not emo)

2.i want to ask you all, do you think/know, that screamo doesn't MAKE you depressed. i really want to stress that so much (MAKE). people hear it and their first reactions are "omg it sounds so angry its horrible" "i cant sing along, how is this good music" or "turn the emo shit off before i kill myself" these responses normally follow with allot of swearing and cursing. But i think that music can't make you feel anything, or make you do anything; i think that music provokes feelings already there and can change your heart rate depending on the speed, volume, and how much bass a song has. but no way can it make you feel or do something.

and also, is it just me, or is it people that say things like"err that's so depressing" the people that NEED some sort of techno or heavy drum and bass song to be able to dance.

and on a second point, do you not think that techno is one of the worst forms of music there is? <thats just my opinion... but it doesnt require any skill what so ever, its quite mindless and repetitive, and the high piched fastness of it hurts my head.... if anything that makes me want to kill my self...

Is what i think (the points above) normal?

I am 27. when I was 14 to 20 or so I liked all sorts of weird music and I must say there is some music I'd rather not listen because I feel it has been affecting my mood. For example angry music will make me angry, and some retro music makes me depressed because I think about the past a lot.

After about 22 when I moved out of college I lost interest in most music. But I do listen to some selectively.

So I think its healthier to avoid bad music that encourages or reminds you of violence, hurting, or depression. I am not saying listen to dumb pop music, just change up your style.

Most importantly its normal if you keep it for yourself most of the time. If you bring it up to your friends all the time or dress like a weirdo then its not normal for sure. Make them ask about your music, dont just bring it up.

I love screamo. It makes me feel good inside. I don't get angry listening to it. I get a FUCK YEAH feeling when I listen to metal.

    Hiya,

I know certain music affects my mood so I switched back to the folk/blues I grew up with. I’ve even made up a few songs myself. I’m a lot happier, and I enjoy the concerts I’ve been to since my tastes changed a lot more –- it’s a bit unusual for my age but it won’t stop me listening. I only wish I’d been to said concerts years ago!

I actually think I’ve gone too far the other way; I’m too calm, but that’s better than being a boiling pot of rage.

Ok, for one i dislike your opinion, all I listen to is techno music but I do think a lot of people hate screamo I do not but i don't listen to it either i think whatever genre of music makes you happy you should listen to and not care what others think and for the worst music ever "country" cannot stand that music at all.

Tl;dr but dude, listen to whatever kinds of music you think sounds good. If you like it, enjoy it, and ignore whoever tells you that you suck for liking it. I love death metal, Japanese pop, and Taylor Swift just as much as I love UnderOath, Greeley Estates, Senses Fail, and whatever other "screamo"/post-hardcore/metalcore band you can think of. Oh, and as I scanned over your post - no, techno music is awesome.

Your post is way to long I could only read the first paragraph or two before I started screaming.

Listen to what ever you like. Who cares if people stereotype you it's a natural human behavior.

if i wanna listen to annoying endless screaming, i'll go watch a shitty low budget horror movie. when i listen to music i want to be able to understand the person singing so that i know what the hell the song's about...that's just me though.

lol, im sorry and all, but if you think this is too long to read (im assuming you can't be bothered) (im also assuming that you're on here because you're bored) so why not read it all? its like reading three "normal" ones... and you can't make a full point if it's just two or three lines.

  • screamo is amazing. But after a while it gets old iam totally in to folk music now. And you want to know something funny i never cut myself when i listen to screamo and now that i listen to folk i cut myself often. It doesnt depend on what music you listen to just the kind of feelings you have and how you choose to deal with them.
