Toppings on top of a hot dog

I'm trying to figure out a different kind of Hot Dog to serve the residents who are 65+ years in age at the assistent living/nursing home I work at. I thought I would post a poll of toppings I was thinking of putting on top of the dog.

You can of course post your own favorite toppings that you like on your hot dog or toppings you would like to try some time.

Bacon Wrapped w/ Caramelized Onions and Mustard 10
Cream Cheese, Caramelized Onions and Bacon Bits 0
BBQ Sauce, Bacon and Shredded Cheddar 7
Caramelized Onions, Relish and Ketchup or Mustard 8

I can't stop thinking "soup"! Hahaha. I'm sorry, I'm gonna leave now. :/

I find it very difficult to change the eating habits of older people.

I'm positive that you're trying to kill them.

    • They love their hot dogs and it's on the menu to serve a certain day, I can't do anything about that.

I don't know about older people but boiled onions, a single line of mustard, and a single line of ketchup does it for me (that crappy squeezy stuff). I miss hot dogs.

For old people, hot dogs don't seem right somehow. Like I watched an Alan Bennett play where someone kept trying to get his mother to eat a cheeseburger. I don't know why but that seems wrong too. And pizza. When his mother in the play did eat a pizza, she was sick everywhere.

Why not print off menu cards for the older people and let them vote on what they'd like? If anyone should be deciding what food they get, it should probably be them.

What kind of mustard, though? This is crucial.

    • It's how the menu is set up where I work. I'm just a fill in cook there. But they do love their hot dogs.

Also when you say that cheeseburgers seems wrong; they actually order those all the time even when it's not the special for the day. ha

Ha! I probably will too if I go senile and forget I'm a vegetarian. I do love a cheeseburger.

Actually, given how much your residents like cheeseburgers, could you make mini-cheeseburgers and put them on top of the hot dogs? They'd probably love you forever!

        • Haha, they would love that.

They LOVE fattening foods. Bacon and grilled cheese sandwiches seem to be a big thing they love too.

I should make a grilled cheeseburger bacon hot dog sandwich for them. They would be in cholestrol heaven.

lol that sounds great, but instead of serving it in a sandwich, maybe you could put it between two slices of pizza. :P

I've always eaten mustard and ketchup on hot dogs, had no idea there was this many choices...

I dislike all of these. I do like bacon wrapped hotdogs. However beside bacon I would only add pickles and or mustard. I love pickles. They go great on most things.

Hey everyone, they're old, don't tell them what do; let them eat what they want.

In Colombia where I am from, we use this: Pineapple sauce on it and maybe crushed lays chips. IT IS SO GOOD!

I think you should go light and simple on the toppings. Their stomachs or other parts of themselves might sensitive to certain things. I would suggest going with basics: Ketchup & Mustard.

    • These are the richer folk at the nursing home/assistant living. They like their fattening foods. They really are use to food like these even though I agree that hot dogs aren't exactly the healthiest.

I was thinking of just making a list of toppings instead so that they can pick what flavors they want to combine.
