To want to tell my friend that her breath smells like shit....

I hate to hurt people's feelings, especially my best friends. When she talks to me, I have to cover my nose because the smell is so intense that I can't help but to tell her that I have something to do and that the conversation have to continue some other time. She brushes, but I don't think she's doing a great job at it. What should she do?

I'd just say 'oh man, what did you eat? that smells awful!' and make a fanning motion with my hand. Offer gum.

That's how I'd get my foot in the door, so to speak.

If nothing has improved the next time you see her, then just bring up the smell again, say something like 'I smell that same awful smell again. You should get it checked out, you might have tooth decay or an infection. Want some gum for now?'.

She could be constipated. At my old after school there were fraternal twins who said that vegetables were disgusting and that they never ate them. I told them they would become constipated. Within a few weeks, the girls breath became so fucking intense that I felt like jumping out the window. Then one day, she went to the bathroom, stayed in there for about 3-6 hours and made the whole hallway smell like shit. I ended up leaving my post because I was about ready to pass out. O_0

Ask her what her diet is like if it's not constipation then maybe she's sick. Has anyone else noticed the smell?

Tell her I don't want to hurt your feelings but when I'm around you I smell this odor off your breath

Having bad breath might not have anything to do with brushing. She might have a bacteria in her body which makes her breath that way. She should go to the doctor first to take a breath test; and then to the dentist.

Anyway, tell her nicely. Be honest but, don't be rude. Just say "(Name) I have noticed that your breath stinks."

Wait for her response and go from there. I hope that you don't take this problem against her. Be a good friend and support her. Knowing that one has bad breath can hurt her self-esteem.

Nobody should make fun of bad breath, it's a disease called haltoisis, so just mind your own business

There was this guy who owned a used bookstore who had the worst breath imaginable. I mailed him some breath mints without a return address.

Write YOUR BREATH STINKS on a piece of paper and shove it through the door. Type it up so she doesn't recognise your writing.

'Don't stand, don't stand so, don't stand so close to' her. Stay up wind around her at all times. Act like she is smoking a cigarette and you don't smoke or like it. Keep your distance but this is definitely not something that you would want to end a friendship over...is it?

Its actually good in the long run if you tell this person, you are probably not the only one that notices...

just tell him or her "you know what i hate? people with bad breath and people who dont brush their teeth" then maybe she will realize that you might be talking about her! :)

So many times, people brush their teeth, but they don't floss. So much smelly bacteria is between the teeth. Somehow get her to floss by saying how healthy it is.

Also when you know you will be face to face with her offer her water. At least that weakens the smell temporarily. Unfortunately if she won't drink you need to arrange to be sitting at a distance.

Even if you are close (friendship wise), it is hard to tell someone that they smell. You just have to get it out fast and casually like it is no big deal but that they need to check their hygene. They will be embarrassed, not you.

    OMFG LOLOLOL
    I know that feeling!
    My bf has bad breath.
At first I didn't want to tell him, but after I while it REALLY started to irritate me.
You have to either a) Work up the courage to tell him/her that she/he has bad breath -if they are a good friend they'll be happy you told them instead of embarrassing themselves to everyone when people are secretly trying to avoid their stanky breath
    b) Get used to the stink? LOL

I have a very close friend that breath also smells so bad! I don't think she flosses at all. She's ao pretty but, her teeth are going bad now. I can't bring myself to tell her. We are in are 30's if your younger you better have more balls then me and just tell her cause her teeth will go bad to.
I thought about leaving a letter in her mail box a typed one.

She might need to floss a little better, if at all. That's where all the stink comes from. Those little bits of food collected on floss smell like fecal matter because it's from bacteria.
