To not buy gifts for your parents

I'm 19 but I don't have a job or car or anything. I usually try to do or make something - pictures, cakes, clean the house, etc. - and wish them a happy whatever with hugs etc, but is this suitable for a person my age? I would like to know what parents think too (be honest... don't just say it's the thought that counts unless you believe that!). I have bought them stuff before (cool stuff that they would actually like or even asked for) and they do not seem all that impressed... I mean they say they are but then they never use it... anyway is this normal?

I don't have kids. But I would think with all the shit we put our parents through, the least we could do is make them a "Best Mom/Dad In The World!!!" certificate a few times each year. And give them a "Will Clean Room" coupon valid for sixty days.

I just find out who bought a gift for whomever, whatever the occasion and tell them to put my name on the card too. When I cant afford things. Which is often.

  • The way I see it is you put so much more effort than someone who will buy let's say a birthday card. Just you making them a cake is a billion times more thoughtful than buying a card that you didn't even read. I'm not a parent but for me personally, you making something with pictures or just a cake beats any kinds of gift money can buy. I like you :) (hope you're not a guy haha)

No offense but I think the real problem here is that you don't have a Job at 19
