To me there is something deeply spiritual about smokeing a cigarette

Am I nuts? I'm a recovering drug addict and I love my recovery and staying clean, however there is something that is different about nicotine. Whenever I used hard drugs or illicit drugs it felt soulish and sickening. However with tobacco it is like my spirit connect with other spirits or something. I believe in God and know I can talk to him without smoking, but when I smoke I feel like I'm communicating with something....else.

Same! i noticed when i smoke cigs when i draw or write i become more creative! i dont know why lol Cigs are harmless unless you smoke like 2 packs a day, i think people should stop telling you whether you can smoke cigs or not, i live in NY and cigs are going up to $9 a pack..which is FUCKED just another way to control what you can and cant do.. also right now im trying to quit Opiates, which i thought would be harder but i guess when you put your mind to something you can do anything..

I'm pretty sure there are some Native American cultures that think very similarly about tobacco.

you're connecting with... yourself. that may sound strange but you're not ending up high, so you can actually feel your feelings, and it's time alone to contemplate, and stop and THINK. one of the things i have a hard time with when it comes to quitting, is when will i get that time? nobody just goes outside for six minutes to sit with themselves and think, and it's where i really gather my thoughts, concentrate on my "breaths" and get grounded for a few.

plus in AA, who doesn't live for coffee and a smoke?

Damn dude, that IS THE EFFECT OF NICOTINE!!! Every person gets an exciting feeling or something else when they smoke. Your feeling is that, like you are communicating with something. Although it could be serious. My mom has a friend here in the Philippines. She told me a story about this friend when they were 5th grade or something. Once thzt friend of hers was playing in the forest, suddenly she got thrown away by something, then she felt something else catch her. She thought it was her grandpa but when she looked, her grandpa was a LOOOOOONG way away. The mystery thing that caught her was some sort of spirit. In my country they say that if you are possessed or come in contact with or put a curse on by a spirit (the word we use is "namatanda" which means all these definitions) you can't bring your pinkies parralel. She tried to do it , but whatever positioning she does even when she raises one hand, they won't get parralel with each other! Now here parents (I think) called a "spiritista" or you might call him like some sorta shaman. She began to whip at the back of the girl to make the spirit leave. The spirit and the girl have become friends and talk to each other a lot, they like each other but the girl gets fevers and feels bad. The spirit won't leave and made a hump on the girls back. Now she can't stand straight and has grown like that, with a hunched back. When the doctors made an X-ray of the hump, they see nothing inside. She had the chance to get a doctor to remove it, but she had a dream that if she had it removed, she will die. This really creeps me out and I think you have the same thing, only slighter. That thing inside you must like smoking if you really think you are communicating with something. If not then that really is the effect of nicotine on you.

I think the fact that you have an addictive personality could play a factor in this for you. I say whatever makes you feel at one with nature (or whatever it is you are feeling closer to) is a plus. I don't know that this is normal, but I wouldn't call it abnormal. Perhaps the deep inhale makes you envision heavenly surroundings? It just seems as though you are replacing your harder habits with two less hazardous ones... 1. Nicotine, and 2. Spirituality. Good Luck with your journey!

    ~Peace~
