To go to the movies on a regular basis with someone you hate?

I have a family member with whom I go to the movies OFTEN. I HATE this person, I really do, but when it comes to company for the movies they are perfect for me. They always buy the refreshments, they don't talk during the movie, they like to discuss the movie intelligently afterwards.

IS IT NORMAL TO ENJOY WATCHING A MOVIE WITH SOMEONE YOU NORMALLY HATE IN OTHER SETTINGS?

  • Wow so they always buy the refreshments, probably the tickets as well, dont bother you, and then talk intelligently about the movie afterwards? Sounds to me like you are just a giant ungrateful asshole. Way to take advantage of the generosity of another family member. Stupid cheap bitch.

    • I know it sounds bad put like that.

However, outside of this narrow social event, the person to whom I refer is a unutterably unmitigated fucking cunt without peer :/

Its normal to be able to tolerate a person in some occasions and not in others. Someone might be a great cop but when not at work a complete jerk. You can like someone as a person but not agree politics wise. I would tolerate someone I hate to go to the movies if I knew they would shut up and not believe going to the movies meant it was something sexual. Sometimes people go to movies to watch a movie not listen to someone chat or that type of bull shit.

So basically you just go with him/her because he/she buys everything? The least you could do is say thank you. And why do you hate this person exactly?

    Hmm...

It's okay to go to the movies.
It's okay to go to the movies once a week.
It's okay to go to the movies if you're 15 and you go with your mom.
It's okay to go to the movies with someone you don't like.
It's okay to go to the movies alone.
It's okay to go to the movies on dates.

It's strange to obsess over whether it's normal to go to the movies or not.

That's the kind of person you just need to keep in a special movie-going compartment of your life - they serve no other purpose.
