To drink alcohol just to make your crazy thoughts slow down?

My mind traffic is busy and I just need a break sometimes. I get so many thoughts - imaginations, concerns, questions, considerations, memories - taking up my entire head, that I feel overloaded. I get almost disconnected from what's right in front of me and then I feel like I can't do a thing.

Now, I take a few little sips of wine (or something a little stronger), not a lot, maybe just half a glass - and everything just slows down enough for me to feel in control. I can just think one thought at a time, and it can be a thought about something that's practical and real.

Does anyone else do this? I'm worried of being judged as an alkie, but I have to admit it helps...

Yeah I do that too. People will try to say it's alcoholic behavior, but I've never even been completely drunk before and have no desire to. It's not great to be dependent on anything to function but I think you're fine for now, it's a small amount and wine is pretty good for you

Billy Mays here for OxiClean, the stain specialist, powered by the air you breathe, activated by the water that you and I drink.

It’s Mother Nature-approved and it’s safe on your colored fabrics. Use it on carpets. OxiClean seeks out organic stains, pet stains, food stains. it gets down into the matting, into the padding. It even takes red wine and grape juice out of white carpeting. It cleans, it brightens, it eliminates odors all at the same time. Don’t just get it clean, get it OxiClean.

I suppose some might call it self-medication, and I could see that.

Don't see how it's alcoholic behavior. The definition of alcoholism is fairly fluid, but your drinking is not adversely affecting your life, you're not going to blackout on that dosage, and it doesn't sound like your tolerance is increasing.

I think it's generally accepted that there's a genetic component to alcoholism, and some people are just prone to fall into that pit. It doesn't sound like you're one of them.

I think the only concern is that, if you hit a particularly bad patch in life, you might turn to the stress-reliever you know best, and it could become a habit.

In many places, it's very normal to have a small glass of wine with dinner. There have been conflicting studies on the long-term effects of that, but I think it's generally accepted that it's much less harmful than getting completely shit-faced every Friday and Saturday night.

When I drink alot, its probably me wanting to bring up memories and thoughts, like I would get drunk and then I wouldn't feel like I was being judged by society simply because I am a crossdresser at home in private. Getting drunk also used to help me relax enough back when I was able to suck my own cock.

The problem with "alcoholism" its it's such a loosely defined thing that basically anyone who drinks at all can be considered one. Basically its just a blanket term to make it easier to sell you on rehab. Alcohol can be an excellent treatment for mental issues if you use it correctly.

I'm the same at times, I get racing thoughts through my mind at times when I feel there are a few things going on or like I feel I may be told something bad at work or I may have forgotten something etc, it could be anxiety most likely, it's probably not a good thing you are turning to alcohol to stop them but the amount you are drinking sounds fine, especially red wine which actually has cardio vascular benefits, just be careful that amounts don't increase etc and you start getting drunk often as that's what can start addiction. Take care :-)

If it isn't interferring with your life and you're not drinking an unsafe amount, I wouldn't say it's a problem. But just be careful that it doesn't get more extreme.

Additionally, if you're dealing with so many racing thoughts you might be feeling anxious or overwhelmed, and it could be good to look into what's causing that. The underlying stress sounds like it may be more of an issue than the drinking itself.
