To dream about something you thought was a movie

Hard to explain, but when I was dreaming, I knew I was dreaming, and I thought, oh cool this a reference to the classic *insert some title of a book and movie that doesn't actually exist*. Now, this sort of thing happens often, where I will know i'm dreaming, and actually say to myself in the dream "this is brilliant remember this for when you wake up", but when I wake up and remember the dream, it's actually retarded and makes no sense. It also has happened a couple times, that I am watching my dreams in the 3rd person omniscient and 1st person at the same time, like directing a movie that you are also acting in. In this dream it was like i was the (cruel) god, and I was also his/her unsuspecting victim. Anyway, it actually did make sense when i woke up, but when i tried to say to myself that was a dream about... oh come on you know this... classic book they made into a movie... no... no wait? i've never actually seen/read anything like that before. Or if i have, it was very subconscious. Something about psychologically traumatized children. And no, I have never experienced it in real life. IIN?
