To cough up poop smelling miniature matter?

My cousin and I were talking one day about something that has happened to both of us. We noticed that we both, mostly as children, have coughed up these small pieces of hard cottage cheese like pieces that are foul smelling resembling the scent of feces. They come up in your throat and even if they are on your finger for even a second, they will leave the foul odor on your finger. I know this is disgusting, but we are too curious to not ask if anyone knows what the heck we are talking about. Thanks!

    Called tonsil stones. Normal if you have cryptic tonsils.

      No, they aren't that hard. Sorry I didn't really specify. They are formed, but able to be crushed... you know.. like a pea.

    Definitely tonsil stones (correct name: tonsiloliths). They are mushy but firm. They smell awful. For me, they come and go periodically. I haven't had one in a few years, but there was a time when I had them constantly. I'm not sure what I did to stop them, but I think it involves using Listerine every day and not getting sick.

    tonsil stones. they are disgusting. i remember my friend got one and pinged it away then held her finger up to me and said "smell my finger, it smells like ass" Boke. But yeah i get them too haha!

    I heard that they're dead white blood cells and dead bacteria (which causes the smell), and you get them when you have a throat infection.

    I always thought they smelled like really bad breath myself. And yeah it gets caught in your throat sometimes.

    Tonsil stones.
    My daughter gets them and so did I until my tonsillectomy in 1993

    Only had it once or twice when I got tonsillitis. Didn't smell like shit, but didn't smell good either.

    This is normal. It's basically just plaque that is trapped in the crevices of your tonsils. I used to get tonsillitis a lot when I was a kid which left my tonsils scarred and prone to plaque getting trapped in them. Gargle vigerously with mouthwash or salt water will help.

    Dr Oz touched on this topic one episode I was soooo friggin grossed out omg that's nasty I am so sorry to anyone who has this problem cuz I know u can't help it and I cannot even imagine going through that!!

      That is correct. We know what it is, but we were mainly curious if it had happened to anyone else or how common it is.
