To choose a long distance relationship

My boyfriend has been my friend for 6 years, and we have been together for almost 5 months. However, he's leaving for overseas for his studies in about 5 months time, and there is a time difference between us of about 8 hours when he leaves.

No one wants to end things, i think i can cope with a long distance relationship but he has been having doubts as his family thinks otherwise.

What do you guys think i should do?

Additional comments will be much appreciated :)

Set a deadline for him to make a choice 8
Don't take up a long distance relationship, it never works out 3
Just break up with him now, it makes separation easier when he leaves 6
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

At least try it. There's no point giving up without trying :)

Also, tell him he should tell his family to mind their own business.

Thank you dom180, i laughed at your comment about his family. But i understand where he's coming from as family does play an important role.

      Thank you for your support!

I definitely think distance can work if both people put effort into it, especially since y'all were together before the distance.

Thank you Alc1592 for your advice! so would you think being together before the distance would be an advantage point? why so?

If you really love him, then you won't give up the relationship. It's simple as that.
Love knows no "deadline" or something like that.

Thank you for your advice. I just feel that I need to end things fast if we can't work things out, so it would be less painful for both of us. Hence the deadline :(

It is likely to not work out, I was with my ex for 7 years and moved from California to Arkansas and she broke up with me 2 weeks later. It's very hard to have a LDR but I say go for it and see how it turns out.

thanks mixwell for your honesty, can i ask if you guys were doing LDR or were you guys together for 7 years in the same location?
