To be so harsh

I'm sure I'll get attacked from this post, but I'm curious. I've noticed people on her attacking people on their punctuation, spelling, grammar. I have a slight learning disability so I don't always explain things in the best way I'm a horrible speller. I know I'm not alone. People sounds rude when correcting someone. &I've noticed people just attack others.this sight is called is it normal.. The post's speak for themselves, it's an odd place.so why do some try to act like they are so perfect?

I don't often correct grammar and spelling but I will judge you based on how you present your thoughts. They written word is all you have. If you have a disability, I'm sorry, does it mean you are incapable of learning?

If you ask for patience and understanding then I will give it to you. But how did you not notice that the second half of your post failed to begin sentences with a capital letter and you left out a space. You demonstrate that you can do it, so why did the end cause you trouble?

To me, this makes you sound lazy and that you are using your disability as an excuse. Sorry if that sounds harsh but the grammar Nazis here aren't that bad.

Maybe you don't understand what a learning disability is.im sorry my writing style upsets people. (Not really) and how am I supposed to go back and correct my mystifying I don't know what they are? Hence the learning disabilities. I don't use it as a crutch ever.i only mentioned it because I wanted to ask these questions but knew I'd have mistakes and knew I'd get attacked. But seriously what's this world become when someone openly admits to having a disability, but still gets teased for it...This sight is full of hateful people. I don't think I want to be a part of it . Because no matter what I post I will be attacked and put down.

Don't be so sensitive. I wasn't being harsh, I was giving you an honest opinion. Your reaction only convinces me further that you use your disability as an excuse to not even try. And I am well aware of what a learning disability is. If you don't think I do, perhaps you could give me the specifics, as opposed to the blanket statement. And I explained exactly why it sounds like a convenient excuse for you. Because you did do it properly. So you can do it properly.

And what's with attacking other users? You do to others exactly what you complain about you are only perpetuating the problem you complain about.

Of course I got nasty.why not when I'm being attacked. Some days I can't even speak without losing train of thought.and I've already forgot where I was going one day as I headed out to the grocery store.so I no longer drive. My post are done on a cell phone. I made this account to talk to others who don't know me so I could cope a little more.but I saw response to other post that were so harsh that I thought I'd ask this question to Se how I got treated. This world is full of hate.and calling people names and putting them down over petty things is just wrong.i hope each and every one of you are perfect.if you have children I feel bad for them . unless you only do this here on this site because it gives you a feeling of power.to the person who told me I can learn that I'm lazy.no sir /ma'am I don't need to learn anything my time here is limited. A brain tumor will do that to you.im done here.i will not be back on this sight.i was wrong in thinking I could find compassion here!! Maybe you would change how you treat others if you were told you have a condition that couldn't be cured or fixed!! Maybe

A bain tumor isn't a learning disability. If you want compassion about your problem, you have to be open about what that problem is. You can't expect people to just understand something you don't tell them about. If you start your posts with 'Forgive my grammar, I have a brain tumor", nobody will bother you. U cULd strt Tlkin lyke dis. People -are- compassionate here. They're also intolerant of laziness, which is the first thing they would guess for you. Nobody goes around assuming brain tumors. Learning disabilities don't cause people to appear lazy, brain tumors do.

hogwash. In this thread YOU are the harsh attacker. Everyone gave you an answer, but you chose to see them all as personal attacks. This whole thread is a mess because of how you reacted to some perfectly sensible responses.

Don't blame me for how nasty others have been to you. And you said it yourself, you have a brain tumor, that isn't the same as a learning disability.

You need to give people a chance to be compassionate. A good friend of mine had a traumatic brain injury. His short term memory is shit. I see his frustration when he realizes he just told you the same story for the fifth time. He keeps forgetting I'm pregnant and gets surprised and gleeful every time he learns. But he would never claim to have a learning disability. Something happened to him and his memory doesn't work right.

My suggestion to you, stop calling it a learning disability. That is not what you have.

I'm sorry you did not find what you were looking for.

I kinda think you are on the right track with; "I don't think I want to be a part of it". I for one wouldn't miss you one tiny bit. The only disability you have is that you are a total moron. Perhaps from a self inflicted head injury? Really, banging your head against a concrete wall does not stimulate the growth of brain cells. I have no idea where you heard that one.

Nobody has to be very smart or well educated to use a dictionary or a spellchecker. Not caring enough to use one or the other is just plain disrespectful to those you are asking to read your post. Personally, it infuriates me to get into a valid discussion with someone who doesn't even bother to even proof read their responses and they are just gobbledegook; totally incomprehensible. If they'd bothered to read what they wrote, they would have seen that, but no, they type their asses off and press send.
I hope you see that you need not be perfect, but honestly, you should make some effort to communicate coherently.

I think you're missing the point of what a learning disability is and why people should declare them. Would you chastise a blind woman for being less able than you to see things? Perhaps she could make the effort and read a book about seeing things so she could see things better. I know my point is absurd, but it's deliberately absurd.

Why would you attack the intelligence of someone who has admitted problems in learning?

Hey she's the one who attacked me for no reason. All I did was answer her question. If you read a bit farther, she changes her story quite considerably to a brain tumor. I doubt she has either. Not putting a space between words or a capital at the beginning of a sentence isn't something a tumor would cause; it's something a lazy person does. She called me an idiot for absolutely no good reason and insulted several others on this thread in the same way. Read all her posts and if you still feel the same way, I'll be surprised.

Begin all your posts with, "sorry for my poor writing skills. I have a learning disability." That, at the very least, would stop me from correcting you. Be sure not to put it at the end. Without the disclaimer I likely wont make it to the end.

There is no fucking god. You've wasted your life if you've put all your eggs in that silly basket. If you are really a 45 year old woman, then I feel extremely sorry for you. How could you have gotten by for so many years unable to even use a dictionary? Amazing! Does it really take so much effort to push the space bar and capitalize the first letter of a sentence? Really, how lazy are you? You might want to have one of your three children (or god) proof read your posts for you, so you do not make yourself look quite so ignorant.
Please, in any future posts to me, keep your simple minded references to that useless waste of time that you call god, out of them. I do not, nor shall I ever, entertain the possibility that such a creature exists. Religion is the opiate of the masses and a crutch for those unable to live their lives taking responsibility for their own actions. I suppose god is making you misspell words for it's own reasons? Fiddlesticks.

I only attack people for their poor grammar whenever they make disparaging remarks. Those who like to dish it better be ready to take it. I wouldn't bemoan someone with a learning disability for using incorrect punctuation and such.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • I'm learning disabled too and I see your point but I have realized people give me better responses when I put more effort into my writing.
Nobody would guess I am a horrible speller, but there are programs that spell check everything you do without having to copy and paste everything to check it.
Often I spell a word so badly that spell checker can't fix it. When that happens I go on google and try different spellings until something works.
I also have no use of my right arm currently since I broke it and have been typing everything with my left hand which takes me a lot of time.
Unfortunately if you want people to listen you have to put in more work than they do. Learning disabilities are still discriminated against a lot by society. Life doesn't give us choices of what we are burdened by.

I believe I answered another post just like this one the other day, and I will respond again, in kind.

I tend not to correct spelling or grammar on this site, merely as a matter of respect to those whom speak English as a second language and those who, like yourself, have a learning disability of some sort. To be honest, it would be exhausting and pointless to go after everyone here with poor grammar.

However(!), I do understand the impulse. Ultimately, if you come to this forum, you are bartering other people's time. You are asking people to take a moment out of their day to give you advice, to respond to your comment. I can see why they, in turn, would ask you to honor the simple request of being clear and concise.

People will judge you based on how you present yourself. The most simple analogy would be how you dress for a job interview. Here, in this forum, text is all you have to represent yourself, and for all of the people that legitimately have no command of the English language, there are 5 times as many who just don't care enough to bother. It can get frustrating. When you come here, you are asking something from people; it's not out of line for them to ask something in return.

If you want me to be honest, whilst I don't correct other people's spelling or grammar, I absolutely do judge them a bit for it. Words are important to me; I can't fathom why others wouldn't choose them carefully. It is not so difficult to run a spellcheck. Ultimately, I have noticed that the quality of the responses you get here seems to be directly related to the quality of the question that you ask; if you want a genuine response, why not take a few extra minutes and edit?

Some people always complain about the simple stuff, like bad grammar, because they are simple. The beauty of it all is that they could easily just click off the post, but they want to correct or degrade people because they have nothing better to do.

Now don't get me wrong, bad grammar can be very funny and you can turn it into a joke sometimes, but when people use it as an excuse to be mean and rude, or to make themselves look smart, that's just silly and not helpful to anyone.

I don't think OP means "here" as in this thread, but "here" as in this entire site. I think OP might have been getting treated bad over their grammar and that's what prompted this thread to begin with.

But, I'm not sure about that. it's only what I think. As I didn't see too many people in this thread being rude, either.

          Comment Hidden ( show )

          • CountessDouche

That's fair enough. I think the OP here was rude to me and several other people who gave legit comments on this post; it told me it didn't bother taking the time to read my comment, which I find to be ironic because a large portion of my comment was about the notion of people taking time out to bother responding...not to mention, that it was about the fact that I don't correct people's spelling.

I'm a cunt on here sometimes...I know I am. I can be a sarcastic bitch, but I try not to. I try not to make jokes at the expense of people that are actually seeking help. I've sought help myself for something here (my brother having an eating disorder), and it was awful having someone make jokes about it. It hurt, because I had nowhere else to go. I wouldn't take that out on every user here.

            • Petrichor.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother. I think it's easy to take things for granted when you never have, or known someone who is/was experiencing some sort of trauma or unfortunate event in their life.

A lot of people here lack empathy and crack jokes for their own amusement, never thinking about the feelings of those on the other end of the net. And if you say something about it they say something along the lines of "But this isn't IRL" or "Grow up or get off the net".

That attitude has given me little faith in people on the internet and I have zero expectations for people on anonymous internet forums.

But making jokes is fine as long as it's in good taste, or better yet, joke but give useful information in a second comment. Tell the OP that they can delete it if they wish; anything is better than using someone else's problems to amuse yourself.

I don't know who is being rude or not in this thread because I've only read a few comments.

Yes, I think they should if they can - but if they can't for various reasons (age, learning disability, not their first language etc,.), then they can't.

I also think; if you don't like how people can't use, or just simply don't care to use proper English, then click off the posts and don't read their comments. And don't even bother with having a conversation with them. Personally it does not bother me too much if I can understand what they are trying say.

I've seen people all across the net insult and bash people over improper grammar and for what?
