I use to feel like that, and it was all I thought about for 2 years. What got me over it? Sure wasn't religion! Just used common sense, reason, and intellect!

You might have Thantophobia. It's more related to the actual fear of none existence than the fear of the act of dying itself.

I have it, and it fucking sucks. Most other people seem to have some sort of inbuilt mechanism, where they don't really care. Not sure what it's all about, but always confused me.

A typical response from someone who will never understand your way of thinking will be this "If you're dead, you won't care that you don't exist".
Which, of course is the whole basis of your fear. Being non-existencial.

Let me know if this is the feeling you have, there is a good webpage or two that might help you to feel less alone in your thoughts. Unfortunately there is no solution to this condition. Short of a near death out of body and/or religious experience =/

It's a natural fear. Your body doesn't want to die. If you always think about death, then your body will register it as an actual threat and start pumping stress hormones into your blood. This will lead to more fear.

If only you knew what was beyond death you would not fear it. your body still has a soul and a conscious and when you pass away you only leave the mind and the physical body but your soul lives on forever, whether it be in another form of life or it be the peaceful state you reach when you die. but do not fear it once you die you will be greeted with an everlasting love thats true. Ive read everything from metaphysics to philosophy to meditation and if you meditate and become one with your soul you will no longer have this fear. fear is within the mind it doesnt have to be there. try practicing meditation it really helps you understand where you come from and where your going. this will put you at ease.

Here's a bit of philosophy. What is real can have no opposite. It is its own essence. If life is real, can there be true death? Perhaps of the body. That's probably what frightens you, though. What happens then? I don't know ANYONE who doesn't share that fear, even people of great faith. Just know one thing: Something (whatever you want to call it), knows only your goodness---the essence of what you are---and you are okay now, and always will be. That "something" will take special care of you" -- Remember that.

agree with the previous comments. it's totally normal to be scared of dying, or wonder what it's like to die. but don't think about it too much. enjoy the time you have here.

It's normal to be scared of dying yeah. But thinking about dying isn't normal and i would stop worrying about it if i were you. Try doing something to take up your time and occupy your thoughts so you have no time to worry about it, after all there is nothing we can do about it when it is our time.

Faith does help you to face the prospect of dying without going into a panic. I've been a Christian for many years and have grown spiritually throughout those years. I have a personal relationship with Christ and death is not such a dreaded thought anymore. I know and believe that our souls will go to Heaven. If you don't believe in God and that His Son Jesus Christ died for our sins and was resurrected and now sits at the right hand of the Father in Heaven.....then I would urge you to go talk to a minister or a priest. They will be able to answer your questions about death, etc. I really feel sorry for those who have shunned God, for those who slander Christians and thrive on religious sarcasm.....they have no hope, for them death is truly the end whereas Christians have the promise of eternal life. I hope, no, I pray that you find the 'peace that passes all understanding' and conquer your extreme fear of death.
