Thoughts on vancouver

Vancouver is advertised as a multicultural paradise full of beauty, gorgeous architecture and great weather. In reality at least through my experience (feel free to do some research through the Vancouver hate blogs) its anything but these things. Its cold, it rains nearly 150 days a year, its the second most expensive place in the world, which is a bit odd since most of the world doesn't know about it let alone wherever the hell it is, and the government is notorious for allowing rich Chinese foreigners to buy up all the land and drive up prices so those born here can't afford it. Families are small and its less diverse now than ever (30% white 40% Chinese 30% ???) very different from the ethic makeup of Seattle just 100 miles south. Anyways im beginning to wonder if i should stay here after my University, because it keeps getting more expensive and its very lonely, when my family came here we were very prosperous but most of our money has been taxed away, and we can't afford the $3000 a month mortgage payment on a condominium. Dating is also a drag, most women in their twenties expecting a man with a white collar job and a hefty paycheck, what's the point? u go to school get a great job, buy a condo, pretty much scrounge by for 30 years to pay your mortgage which is generally a healthy 60% of income here, marry some gold digger bimbo (which apparently all women are in this city) who isn't even good looking to begin with, then grow old and enjoy life????!!! is that this city???!! we'd have to raise a family in a condo or a suburb 3 hours away? this isn't Los Angeles, which has an excuse because its truly a world class city, its a cold raining mountain town of 600,000 people and its demanding i make top dollar to get a pretty mundane life. should i just leave after University? or should i hope that things get better and learn to love the ugly aspects of this.

Get out of that city Asap! 4

Don't care for Vancouver much myself. Too many vibes, too much mold.

The Sunshine Coast though... ah there's a little slice of Gods own backyard right there if you don't mind the ferry trip.
...and being Canada's only rain-forest the sunshine is mostly of the liquid variety.

Kelowna is a decent city. Spread out, friendly, affordable, (for now), and has a world class University.
Van. is only four hours away and makes for a nice trip sometimes.

    just my two cents

I can't believe I'm saying this but Vancouver is worse than Toronto. Granted my dad's parents retired in Victoria BC which is a lot cheaper and nicer. Vancouver is nothing but condos and wealthy Chinese and Indian businessman bound to fuck you over. The housing is nuts and the only good thing about it is P.N.E. playland.

Yes a lot of countries do not have any social assistance or pensions for the elderly. The children are supposed to take care of their elders once they have stopped working. These countries have a different tax scheme as well that does not always allow larger purchases like real estate land parcels inside of that country. Unfortunately finding out Canada Taxation Laws and Income Taxes will be new to these foreigners, they soon learn that it ain't as free and lovely as once believed. Canada is easier to immigrate to, and the USA is then just a show of a passport to enter, and stay for long periods as a Canadian Immigrant. Also making it easier to move into the USA if you were living in Canada, have holdings (1,000,000. Condos). etc.

    • most of those countries are third world hellholes, even the united states has medicare, child health insurance laws and welfare systems. Its smart to assume that one who doesn't like vancity would not move to a third world hellhole. The us is making immigration on Candians tougher because of all of the chinese immigrants trying to get their foot in the door. Also due to the illegitimacy of alot of their money they can't just buy up homes in the US like in Canada because they have requirements that make it necessary to give proof that the money is legitimate.

    • Because US immigration is tough, many chinese try to get Canadian citizenship instead to get free health care and get government assistance for their elders...even when they already have millions. Vancouver is a good place for them because even the worst piece of sh*t parcel of land will be worth 2 million minimum and they don't really ask where u got the money like in the United states and i would guess other provinces so for them its a great way to lock assets quickly.

    • Agreed, its liberal in all the wrong ways, its like what would happen to seattle if immigration was open and politicians were corrupt.
