Thoughts on the purge.
I suspect most of you know about the purge movies if not, it a movie where once a year all crime becomes legal for 12 hours. The purpose is to let people get out all their violent tendencies so they will be good law abiding citizens for the rest of the year.
I think that if the purge was real it would not accomplish its goal of purging people's violent desires, however while I don't think it would help the psyche of the country I do think it would help the economy.
Who would be the most likely to die during the purge, the old, the sick, the homeless, the lower classes who don't have the money to build strong defenses or buy good weapons. Sure people from every class would die, but the poorer people would suffer the most.
These same classes of people who would be the most likely to die would also be the most likely to be receiving government benefits, and their deaths would free up more money for schools and infrastructure projects thus benefiting the country.
The new money for schools and infrastructure would create more jobs. the damage done during the purge would also create new jobs in the construction field, as well as countless new home security businesses popping up.
This could theoretically create a new golden age in the country, as their would be a steady supply of jobs and if the jobs ever started to dry up, those who became poor would then be more susceptible to the purge thus repeating the cycle, insuring a consistently strong economy.
I'm not advocating we institute such a nightmarish thing but I am curious what other people's thoughts are on the matter.
