Thoughts on fostering kids?

As I woman, I've never really wanted to have a baby because I hate kids (little kids) with a burning passion. I just think they're really obnoxious. Also, having a baby will screw up my body, so I'll pass. However, there's still a part of me that wants kids, just not my own. I've considered fostering older kids (maybe 12 or older) because I feel that I could truly provide a loving home for them. A lot of my family whom I've shared this thought with have told me that I should stay away from the foster system. They believe I should just adopt because a lot of foster kids are dangerous, rebellious, and come with a lot of baggage. While that may be true, I don't mind putting in the effort to help out kids/teens, who may never have had people that care for them, with whatever struggles they bring.

Do you think fostering kids is a good or bad idea?

Before making such an important commitment it'd be better if you did some work, voluntary if necessary, with troubled kids and see how you deal with it.

If you can make it work as you explained in this thread, I'd consider you a very special person. As a parent of a child I had to have declared ungovernable (for my own protection), I understand how hard it is to raise a difficult child, especially alone, within the mandates of the current attitude towards parental authority.
    I wish you well.

Even if I could have my own biological child I would still chose adoption why create more children when there are so many already that just need parents.

If it's truly in your heart and soul to do it, go ahead. I wish you the greatest of luck in fostering preteens and teenagers.

I don't know if what you're thinking will work out realistically, but older kids are normally harder to find places for, so if it does that would be great.

Your family is right but if you want to deal with troubled kids anyway, might as well. Someone has to do it. Just don't abuse and neglect them like some foster parents.
