Thoughts on abortion

I am an 18 year old female

I think the word abortion is becoming very desensitized if that's the right word. I had this realization during my highschool English class in senior year, when my teacher was talking about gender studies and mentioned abortion like it was no big deal and perfectly acceptable. It made me realize how lightly people are taking abortion.

I am not 100% against abortion. I think the main situation when abortion is acceptable is when the woman's life is in danger. Maybe a few exceptions. In the situation of a rape pregnancy, I think an abortion shouldn't be allowed simply because the woman doesn't want it. Yes, it's easy for me to say, after all I have never been raped or pregnant. I just want to be ethical with this, as much as I believe I can

I had so many more thoughts planned for this. Can't organize them all I guess

Government should never be allowed to force a woman to carry, give birth to, and raise a child, Period. Especially if that child is unwanted to begin with.

  • It's crueler to force someone into a life that wasn't wanted.

Have you taken a second to think about the many reasons a woman may not want to have a baby? And their potential impact against the baby/woman/family?

Not to mention foetus' that have severe deformities and will not survive. Or women who have not been able to expel an already dead foetus?

Or that it's really not anything to do with anyone other than the woman (and ideally, her partner).

  • I’m not anti-abortion, but I continually wonder why so many are needed. There is a host of birth control options available to everyone, to avoid pregnancy to begin with, and they are free in many places.
Abortions have simply become to convenient for irresponsible people.
Late stage abortions border on a crime imo.

Yeah, "birth control" isn't 100% dependable on preventing pregnancies, it can still happen.

      • And your point is what exactly? The VAST majority of abortions and all STDs (which right now are at an ALL TIME high in recorded history per the CDC) are a result of unprotected sex and lazy irresponsible ppl.
For the RARE occasion birth control fails, there is the morning after pill or the last resort of an old school abortion/D&C.
Combine two forms of birth control or even double wrap and the chances of pregnancy are about zero or 5 zeros (00000.1% or one in 100,000 encounters - that’s fucking once a day, everyday, for 274 years). The odds say you’ll be dead 200 years before an unwanted pregnancy could possibly occur.

I think a lot can be stopped by birth control pill and people need to take responsibility of there actions much more but I can understand if someone was raped and decided to abort, got to remember it’s a human being that’s got your genetics, someone I know didn’t abort but adopted it out the child never got over it but she’s glad to actullay be alive and happy where she is now!

I've always thought it should be discussed and bought as freely and easily as buying a packet of sweets. Like it should be a common choice for a woman not to bother using protection because they'd just prefer to get an abortion later instead (although that still wouldn't be a good choice since they could still get an STD). I've never seen what the big deal was.

  • I have no problem with abortion, but it would be both cheaper and ethically preferrable to just use birth control.

Im not a fan if it but it should never be illegal. Sometimes there are good reasons. That said i dislike abortion as birth control because it seems kind of destructionist...but that applies to my own body not everyone else.
