      Pretty dark at the start and end of the phase when it's a thin crescent.

    Shining with the light from the sun and the sun doesn't give the light to the moon assuming the moon's gonna owe it one.

    No, don't look at the moon! The moonlight is even deadlier to your eyes than the light of the sun during an eclipse.
