I am always on the Internet, on Facebook or reading what people post. I'm not a grammar teacher, don't get me wrong, but does anybody else find it annoying when people don't know the difference between words that sound alike but have different meanings ("they're, there, their," "its, it's," "effect, affect," "two, to, too")? For example, somebody posts on the computer something about "There going there with there friends." I think, "Where going where with where friends?...Oh, you mean THEY'RE going THERE with THEIR friends." IT'S like what we learned in elementary school is pointless now!

Is it normal that this bothers me?

    But yeah, that drives me insane. I often irritate people because I rarely let an email go un-proofread.

    Woah, ME TOO. I feel the same way about 'your' and 'you're.' It drives me crazy. Haha.

    There's really no reason for you to be bothered so much by that. You should be bothered when you see those errors in formal articles/journal entries posted online but if they're just in YouTube comments, tumblr posts, etc... then it shouldn't be a problem.

    Better remember that English is the universal language and not everyone around the world can speak it fluently. If you see people using the wrong words or committing grammar/spelling errors keep in mind that they could be people whose native language isn't English. It's not nice thinking that what they've learned came to waste just because of those mistakes.

    I agree. It's not rocket science.

    Sadly, if you ever play online RPGs it only gets worse. In those, you get get the people who can't be half-arsed to tell the difference between "they're", "there", and "their" or "you're" and "your" just like you get here. However, there you also get the clowns who think "plz" is an actual word that deserves a reply, especially if they say it 20 times in a row.

    It's really frustrating, I just can't fathom how some never learned proper grammar, and the texting lingo doesn't really help it either.
