The word "they're" makes me think of ghostbusters

Since I was a small child, looking at the word "they're" makes me think of the movie Ghostbusters. It only happens when I SEE the word, never when I hear it. There and their do not have the same effect.

I doubt anyone has experienced this exact phenomenon, but has anyone experienced anything like it?

Whenever I see the word "zombies" I think of those frigging screamer videos on YouTube (the ones where a scary face pops out at the end accompanied by a loud scream) and I hate it :(

I got chills reading this reply. Viking Wolf, I think you are right on the money. I'm SURE that this is the connection that I have been subconsciously making this whole time.

    Wow. That was really insightful.

Well I am glad to hear it. I have some really weird associations of two or more different things as well. I often like to try and think about why I associate them.

I think this might be more easy to understand than all of this.
Ghostbusters was one film of great prominence in the 1980's on paranormal. It was a comedy though. The other was Poltergeist and that was a bit more dramatic. The little girl in the movie could hear them through the static on the television, when she did she gave the most quoted line of the 1980's. "They're Here!"
It might be that you associate the two movies together in some subconscious way and that the word "They're" jogs memories of both movies. You were young when Ghostbusters came out so it follows you were really young when Poltergeist came out. Just an idea.

The only word that could cause me to think about Ghostbusters other than obvious ones is "ain't", as in "I ain't afraid of no ghost", as it's such a shocking double negative it's no wonder peoples grammar is so poor these days considering we grew up listening to that!

I have no idea why... in fact, I don't think I've ever seen the movie "Ghostbusters!" Seriously!

I'm sure I've seen parts of it, at one point or another, but certainly not the whole movie.

I have words I hear or see that I associate with different times/places/things. Everyone does. But now everytime I see "they're" I'll probably think of ghostbusters :s haha
