The things you say when drunk: are they the honest truth?

When someone is very drunk, do the things they say to people reflect what they truly feel but lack the guts to say sober? Or is it just a bunch of garbage they don't actually mean?

For the comments:
Have you ever said anything while drunk that you honestly never meant?
Has anyone ever said something to you while they were drunk, then later told you they never meant it? Did you believe them?

YES, drunkenness brings out the hidden truths in people. 90
NO, drunkenness makes you say only ridiculous crap. 28
SOMETIMES, depends on how drunk and what's said. 116

Someone told me that they wouldn't mind wearing my socks for a little while, hahaha. That made me laugh.:D I'm not sure if it's garbage or the truth, though. Maybe both? Perhaps they really would like to take my socks for a bit of a spin or something:S.

Either way, I think you can end up saying honest things, and end up saying garbage. Alcohol gets rid of your inhibitions usually, which would make me think that you're more likely to be honest than you would be sober.

I think people are mostly truthful when drunk. It's the filters that get turned off. However, if you are a pathological liar and kind of rude to begin with, alcohol won't change that.

My husband likes to push boundaries. It makes people uncomfortable and usually he only does it to people he think can handle a litte shake up of reality. But when he gets drunk, he speaks more freely and forgets that people don't always want to discuss their biggest fears or sexual desires in a large group setting. And if everyone is drunk, who knows where that conversation will lead.

I think that people are over-sensitive, over-everything when drunk and what they say have shit-value.

I think it really depends to be honest, my aunty for example says a whole lot of shit when drunk, telling everyone she loves them ect...blah blah blah and then a cople of weeks ago I met this really nice guy and he said soo many nice things to me when he was drunk, and I asked him if he means it and he said that he is more of his true self when he is drunk as he is a really shy guy. So I rekon that it depends on what sort of person they are

  • I think it brings out the exact true sentences that are in your head at that minute. And sometimes those thoughts are exaggerated, and most of the time the person doesn't fully explain the single thought they had that they managed to get out. At least that's how it feels to me when I'm drunk

Like one time I was like, "I wouldn't mind being a hooker" and all of my friends started laughing and giving me shit about it and they still call me a prostitute xD
But in reality, what I meant was, "I wouldn't mind being an escort under certain circumstances where I could accept or reject my clients and what they wanted to do with me, and I would want to work in a brothel, under the law, and pay my income taxes like a good citizen." But my friends lost me at hooker and we were all too busy laughing for me to justify myself.

It affects me both ways. I am much more likely to reveal hidden secrets I usually admit only to myself. Yet, I also tend to make up the wildest tales.
