The solution to child support!!

Why didn't I think of this sooner? It's so simple, yet so ingenious!!

We've all seen those commercials for 'adopting' a third-world child for a mere 35 cents a day. They get food, shelter and vaccines...AND schooling!!

So why the hell can't we ship our unwanted kids off to these countries so we only have to pay 35 cents a day for their care, instead of the ridiculous sums we have to pay for the cost of living here in the US?

It makes perfect sense.

Great idea!! 28
Uh, that might work, not sure. 8
OMG, no, what's wrong with you? 46
With a little tweaking, this could become reality. 17

Just think of the shipping costs! I see hidden fees.

    • Simple, make them row the boat like they used to do with slaves. You'd just have to pay that drummer guy to keep the pace right, and the initial investment of the boat, but it doesn't have to be anything fancy. Or, if it was land travel, then have them take turns pulling a wagon. 10 can pull while 60 are seated within. After 4 hours, switch the team.

Both methods would pay for themselves many times over due to the minimal cost of maintenance (no engines), and of course no fuel used. The cost to the parents would be minimal as well as a result.

...But then the extra cost for the extra food to give them the energy for all that extra manual labour...

        • They will eat lentils, oatmeal and/or potatoes. Those things are only slightly more expensive than dirt at about 5-10 cents a serving. Vermin taken from around the ship are a bonus.

      Baggage fees!

And I'm not talking THAT kind of baggage. The EMOTIONAL baggage attached to leaving a child and sending him/her to a new country.

yeah... but there's a guy here who wants to nuke Africa. So I'm not sure that it's a good idea to send people there. You know, bombs and orphans don't go together. Or do they? O_O

I don't know how you came up with that, good sir. But regardless of how it works, I don't think it would be legal for a number of reasons.

You should team up with the person who wants to release all the stray and feral domestic animals into the woods.

Make them work in textile factories. Or just ship them off to Australia.

hmmm not bad sir not bad but the problem with shipping them is you have to pay something and gaining nothing and that right there is bad business
Why not teach them the value of work?
After all they are just small humans not monkeys... and make them do some light work like making bricks or working at the coal mines? Or maybe make them help science and let them be used as lab kids?
Why get rid of something if you can make profit out of it?

If they are unwanted then why have them in the first place? They didn't choose to be born.

    • Maybe you could make a living making child slave ships and wagons and pay your support with that. Wouldn't that be some shit right there??!!

Or just set yourself on fire and claim your kid did it, get said kid arrested and be off the hook.

It is likely the the children in question are already living off government grants and the 35 cents a day is just a bit extra to cover their cost of living because the government grant is not enough.

The governments of those countries won't want to support more children when they already can't fully support what they have there.

Think of it, 35 cents a day is about $10 per month. That can't even buy food of adequate quantity or nutrition in the cheapest of places.

Do the countries we're talking about have such programs?

I didn't research this, just sharing what I heard long ago + some basic logic, so I can't give you any more details without spending some time doing further research, which I'm far too lazy to do.

I think you're overestimating the cost of providing food in bulk. You can provide meals for very little money per meal if you're feeding many people.

Anyway, I looked into a couple programs, and they're usually more expensive than $.35 per day. Some of the children are in countries that have welfare programs, and some aren't. From what I can tell, most of them aren't orphans, or if they are, they already have people taking care of them, so you're right that there's probably another source of income, even if it's not from the government. The funds are for things like food, clean water, education, and healthcare.

I'm not sure how to react to this.

My brain says it's a terrible idea... but then, but how would *I* do it?

Child support is when a one parent leaves the child with the other, and the one who leaves pays the one with the child money... This is fine in itself.

Now for orphans... I'm not sure... Adoption is great, but there are only so many families out there willing to adopt. I certainly don't want the Feds to raise them, maybe the State, but not the Feds. Hmmm... this is perplexing indeed.
