The pretty ugly ones

Is it normal i prefer to date a person that looks okay, over a person i find beautiful. Reason being is because after a while pretty starts to look ugly, and ugly starts looking better

uhmm I don't know about that, unless you mean the plain or average looking type, those who are attractive but not as flashy and overconfident as those who wear expensive clothes and spend hours on their hair and makeup, which is aparently what is seen as ''beautiful'' by most

Its normal, but a little unethical in my eyes. Date someone you have feelings for over looks. It will save you a lot of bullshit.

Sometimes the quicks or imperfections to a girls appearance are the things I end up liking the most. I definitely relate to you OPer.

I believe this is called the mermaid effect and I've experienced this, too IRL and also with a TV series I used to watch. There was this character that I found almost repulsive looking when I first tuned in. As I got to know more about his background story and motivations he grew on me and it no longer bothered me that he seemed to have been miscast. Similarly, the more attractive characters somehow lost their luster after a few weeks of watching the show.

I think average looking girls have the ability to make themselves look pretty if they wanted to, as well as the ability to look average or a little below average also. For some reason I don't see ugly. I see people who try harder, and people who don't.

I think its kinda nice that you're seeing the ones that might not be considered 'drop dead gorgeous', because chances are; they're the ones who are more real. Today, it seems like if you take a look around, the girls that people find to be 'so hot!!', are really so superficial. At least thats how it is where I live. (U.S.)

And I'll admit that as much as its nice to look good when you're leaving your house, looks do change. I'd just pay more attention to the personality, if anything. Sure, looks do help the attraction out a little bit, but I doubt they're gonna look as hot as they do now when they're 80.

lol im the semi-hot type ....lol. I have a cute face, but I don't classify myself as hot since I'm more girl next door, and i have a pear shaped body which I hate with a passion.

Where I live those drop-dead gorgeous girls (with bleached hair and heavy makeup) you can spot them from a mile away. they are different from the "normal pretty girls" even. Not to stereotype but most of them are pretty dumb....

But around here are many cute girls who try a little bit hard to look good when they leave the house. I think they are ok, they don't spend all of their energy on looking pretty.

I think I'm the same way. Actually, I don't even really know what I am. :p In high school, guys would say that I was hot, but I don't know if that was just a HS thing or not, because these days I don't hear the word hot as much. I still hear it, but rarely. Now, I get told more, "You're so pretty!" or "You're a real cutie." and sometimes they'll say, "You have such a beautiful face." But I really hardly hear hot anymore. I don't know. Its weird. As for my body, I'm just tall and thin.

My natural hair color is really a dark chestnut brown. But I'm one of the guilty ones for getting highlights constantly. :/ Since I always got highlights it became really blonde, so I think I looked more like that stereotypical hottie in Hs. Now, I've let it go a bit, so my natural color is coming in more, and its darker. But I must say, I never was one for the fake tans, loads of makeup, and such. I'd just dye my hair, and I've actually had all colors really. At one point I even went jet black.

But girls like your 'typical hottie'; fake tan, long nails, globs of makeup, revealing outfits, bleach blonde hair, might get noticed right away, but they're just so common its ridiculous! And I feel like because they're so common, I don't even consider that image to be really all that great looking, because its not really unique. You see one like that, you've seen them all. I mean, if you strip them from all the makeup, fake tan, etc, its doubtful they'll be noticed as quickly. But one of my friends told me that usually girls like that are 'hot', but not relationship material.

But by that logic, wouldn't that "pretty ugly" person start to look beautiful to you, and if they start to look pretty, then they would start to look ugly, and the cycle continues...

Are you saying you purposely date those whose looks you're not actually attracted to? I'm confused...
