The only woman working at a job with all males

im a 24 year old female. I'm a welder and have been doing so on and off since 2008. I now have a steady welding job and the only chick working there. im a easy going person and don't talk much. so my question, is it normal that I keep to myself and not socialize with my boss or the male coworkers, even on break? im a little stand offish but I like to work and keep to myself. I literally talk to only 2 of the men there that are a little more open to me. does my boss and coworkers find this weird or off putting that I'm distant? Im not bad on the eye either and don't want them thinking that I'm scared of them or I don't like them... I just rather not socialize much. please let me know if this is weird female behavior or normal.

Just be yourself and forget what ever anyone else thinks. If you're stand off by nature then follow that. If they assume anything about you that's on them.

People should not assume anything of anyone unless they give you probable cause - in my opinion, you keeping to yourself is not enough reason for them to think you're weird or scared of them.

I don't think it is weird. Some people are more quiet and emotionally reserved than others. I bet that the end of the day, the thing they care about the most is whether you are doing a good job or not. If your boss hasn't had to reprimand you over this, that's a good thing.

get off your high horse and just assess people for their insides. make friends with people who are beautiful on the inside. those are the most valuable people to know.

    • high horse really for being a loner? if I were a man who works and is a very personal person and keeps to himself, people will think he's independent maybe even strong and a hell of a worker. But you I think for some reason I'm conceited. when in actuality I am the most grounded and open minded person you'd probably ever meet. I keep to myself because I have great character.. the type of character most people don't have these days. Im a very primitive and philosophical person. people think I'm weird and occasionally ridicule me. I'm a very personal person and I do open up when I feel the want. im far from snobby and I don't crave attention. but some of the other comments were right I guess I shouldn't care about what other people think and just do what I love.

well, whatever, but you missed my point. When you find someone that is beautiful on the inside, embrace THAT person. Try to choose those people as friends, because they are the most valuable human beings.

whatever? thats what you took from my opinion? you're being redundant and you're clearly don't understand my point.

I think you're putting a lot of energy into trying to work out what other people think of you: this is a self-esteem issue for you to work on, you don't know what they're thinking about you.

I don't understand a couple of things in yr last post: what people think you are weird enough to ridicule you and what do you mean by being "very primitive"?

It's fine to want to be left alone. At least learn pole dancing to vent some of your pent up energy.

    • She's already a welder. Learning pole dancing would just be degrading and stupid. Pole dancing is for stupid uneducated women who have nothing better to do than parade their bodies around infront of fat bald unhappily married men because they were too stupid to get an education and too low class to find a decent enough man to take care of them.

Yeah but it makes their bobbies jangle about, that can't be a bad thing.

Dude. She can do private dances for her boyfriend until he begs for mercy. What better way to unwind from a high paid job like precision welding.

Depends, 1 on your personality and 2 on the work environment.

Hazing or sexism may be more prevalent in ur situation and to combat that your exclude yourself from your co workers except when nessasary.

Really its not my place to judge. Why do you ask? Are you worried about how your received by co workers?

hazing.. you think? I worry about not being taken serious at the job. I'm actually a very interesting person to talk to yet im very personal and just want to weld. as I got older I have become more reserved, I've had a few welding jobs when I was 17 and 18 and I was a lot more open. So I wonder if it's normal
