The new simpsons sucks and please dear god let it die

Actually, I think the new Simpsons is more like an atrocity. How long has it been going on for now? Twenty. Five. Fucking. Years.

My entire generation grew up with the Simpsons, with few exceptions. We watched each episode probably a hundred times in our lives. Every quote that was the least bit memorable has been etched in our memories, buried deep within our souls and has become a part of us. The Simpsons was ridiculous, satirical, hilarious and even touching at times.

It started really getting shitty around season 8, 9 and especially 10. All of the characters started becoming caricatures and stereotypes of themselves. A handful of new and completely uninteresting characters were added for no reason. What was once (at least slightly) subtle satire is now nonstop political commentary which is about as subtle as a bag of flaming dog shit being thrown at your face.

The animations are now completely computer generated, and very poorly so. For the past 15+ years, the shitty writers have not come up with a single original idea. The Simpsons has pretty much become exactly like Family Guy was for its first couple of seasons: perpetual unnecessary and unrelated referencing of pop culture and other fads that in and of themselves are passed off as humor -- a kind of humor that is below the caliber of what even most young teenagers would laugh at. In other words, if you laughed at my reference to flaming dog shit, you're likely too sophisticated for the Simpsons as it is today. The number of celebrity cameos used simply to fill up time and to inflate the already valueless abyss that is its ~20-minute airtime is appalling and nothing short of shameless.

And you know, I could potentially forgive all that. I really could. Maybe I could accept that younger people, who never really knew how great The Simpsons was at its peak, who never really "got" it, could at least be able to sit through an episode and chuckle a bit. Maybe I could have just dropped the issue entirely. Had it not been for one thing that just adds insult to injury to the extent that I have not watched a single new episode in over five years:

THEY RECYCLE THEIR JOKES.

As if it wasn't bad enough that The Simpsons franchise has been thoroughly torn apart, shit on. run over, thrown into a live volcano, eaten by a stray magic lava cat and then shit out again over the past 15 years... they add insult to injury by constantly referring to even their less funny material from the time when it was good.

I never studied literature or theater in college, but I'm pretty goddamn certain that recycling old material is a good indication of bad writing. So when The Simpsons recycles the same jokes from 20 years ago multiple times, it's a surefire indication that the writing staff has pretty much completely checked out more than just a few years ago. To salt the wounds even further, those "self-references" just remind me of when The Simpsons not only was funny, but genuinely brought some joy into my life.

So there you have it. What was once a rare pearl of television history, cherished almost universally by millions of people around the entire world for years... has become a steaming pile of pig shit upon cow shit upon horse shit. It looks like so many domestic animals have metaphorically defecated on the quality of the show that it has become nothing short of an agricultural phenomenon. When The Simpsons is on, exotic molds and other fungi immediately spring out of the fertile shit that my television spews when someone accidentally leaves it on during Sunday evenings.

So now that I've gotten that off my chest:

It started heading down hill after the orange league and jhoto. They never bothered to fill in the massive plot-holes which just shows how shitty a writer the creator of Pokemon really is. I guess I have to give him some credit though because apparently it was reported hes suffering from autism so I don't know how harsh you could really be on his poor story telling.

Satoshi Tajiri is sick? Oh, I feel so sorry. But, I've been thinking that he hired someone else to write. Before, they showed values and lessons to the veiwers. Now, it's all battle, battle, catch, battle, win.

Every new Pokemon is so similar to the last one that after playing any one of them there is no point in playing any other. And I'm talking to someone who's played the originals and the new ones from a couple years back. It was the same experience with new graphics, the novelty has completely worn off. And the design of the new Pokemon sucks ridiculously hard, and the concepts are recycled extensively.

Wait a minute. This isn't a Pokemon post. GET OUT OF HERE! OUT! NOW! SHOO!

I disagree, seasons 8 and 9 were good. From 10 on it just gets worse and worse. It isn't even like the same show. Season one wasn't that great, 2 was okay but the golden years were 4-8.

On the other hand I don't find you funny at all. Talk about recycling. You made 50 shit jokes in 3 paragraphs.

They are probably running out of ideas. There's only so much that can be done with that type of set up and with the amount of years it has been on.

I lost interest in the Simpsons around the time that South Park came out and I haven't looked back.

If it so easy, then submit ideas. I say keep them going. While I'll admit some episodes are dumb, others are fine. Just like any other sitcom.

I agree but I actually didn't mind seasons 8-10, maybe because I was still a kid when they were airing and they're nostalgic for me. 11-12 was when it really started going to shit imo.

I'd still rather watch modern Simpsons than Family Guy so there's that. But then I'd rather watch the Star Wars Holiday Special 12 times over than Family Guy so I guess that isn't saying much. South Park is the only show still going from the '90s that's really kept its charm for me.

You could have summed this up with "it is now bad".

And I would have said "yes, it is".

    TL;DR

I stopped watching that show around 3 years ago but it was bad even before than, I think. If it was that bad before I can only imagine how horrible it is now.

Not sure when it really began to stink, though.
