The negativity online annoys me

I am no super-optimist, but the massive amount of negativity online gets on my nerves. The most popular viewpoints online always have to be the ones that are the most negative, regardless of accuracy. Also, whenever something positive happens online, it is either immediately or soon after crushed by a wave of negative people. By negative I don't mean as in showing a dark side to something or pointing out flaws, but as in making the worst out of a situation and not only wallowing in their sadness/hatred/anger like pigs in mud, but chaining everyone within a 1 mile radius and pulling them into the mud as well.

Don't get me wrong the extremely clueless optimists (not all optimists though) annoy me too, but is it normal to be even more annoyed by the massive amount of negativity online?

  • I've noticed this to, and it can be annoying, but I think I know why this is.

The internet has a high population of depressed people because depressed people are more likely to be inactive and like to rant, which equals to complaining online all day.

That makes an incredible amount of sense, it's actually kind of tragic. Assuming it's true, which I am.

But have you ever seen a pig wallow in the mud? They sure look happy to me.

Some people feed off the negativity. All you can do is ignore it and not give it back to them.

We're all gonna die a horrible death.

And then our bodies will be eaten by worms and bacteria.

And then we will be forgotten by our descendants.

  • Well I won't say this is a fact but I usually assume a lot of the negative posts, comments, and blatantly hurtful trolling, are written by some very sad, pathetic, and lonely individuals. I don't know why but whenever I see radical conspiracy theory posts I think of a lonely guy living in his mothers basement while possibly suffering from borderline paranoid schizophrenia.

  • Sometimes we need people to make note on the negative aspects of a positive subject. We can't just focus on the positive and think everything will definitely stay positive.

People like to see subjects as fluffy bunnies running over a sparkly green field with hills, flowers, a nice sun with a happy face.
...And others like to inform you that you were taking E that night.

    • Very true, but the problem is that online people pretty much ONLY focus on the negative aspects.

      • I'm somewhat like that. My idea is that the positive aren't worth talking about, they're positive, they're safe, however the negatives can set us back, so focus on taking care of the negative before you enjoy the positive.

It's not normal to be annoyed, because you should just ignore it.
