Are cold sores common? I've never had one but I thought they were harmless...

For this person, yes. I wouldn't give a rats ass as I am not likely to fall in love again. If it's someone I've known for a month, first of all I wouldn't be having sex with them anyways, so haha, no.

Unfortunately it's true, many people get it without even realising, you only had to have one outbreak and that's it, it doesn't always re-occur. it can't be contracted through anything else but skin to skin contact btw, so even sharing lipgloss won't spread it.
Take extra precautions. Make sure he's on meds for it, don't have sex/oral during an outbreak, always keep it wrapped. Look up more on google about signs and symptoms of an outbreak. As well as other precautions
When I was younger, probably under 25yrs old, I would have doubted they were going to be the love of my life.
Now that I'm older, for someone who's that important to me I would be accepting of it.

well technically, if you ever had a cold sore on your lips you had herpes i believe. not the same type STD, but similar

That's retarded, I have herpes (not genital) and I had a chick for 7 years who knew but I just didn't kiss her when I had a cold sore. Other women also have known but I usually only have an outbreak like 2 times a year and it goes away pretty quick. So ya I still kiss and fuck women no problemo.

I'd certainly be extremely careful if I had a STD that could be passed to another, that they would then have to live with for the rest of their life. If that makes me retarded in your eyes; imagine how you look in mine.
80% of people have Hsv-1. Be careful out there. Just because you haven't had a cold sore yet doesn't mean you don't have it

I just looked it up and it said 50%-80% US Americans have Oral Herpes.
I've never had one in 66 years, so I'm assuming I'm not on of your mythic 80%. It's so interesting how these unsubstantiated statistics keep popping up on this site. Do you people just make this crap up, or is there a web site out there you go to to get them?
