The lesson

I thought it was interesting how far we have come in this society. The other day I was home and it was quiet and I heard this sound and although familiar to me it was something I had not heard before.

I walked toward the door and there was this very lovely and interesting sound and I was both curious and puzzled and as I approached the door a saw a group of smiling faces on the other side and they were singing.

Taken back I was pleasantly surprised and could not believe that they were just standing there singing for no reason but to make people happy. They were not collecting money and they were all just smiling as they sang.

Perplexed I enjoyed the songs and thanked them for coming and sharing that with me and I remember scratching my head saying "Wow I thought this only happens in the movies or on TV"

So then Christmas day came and on the day I saw a man in a full Santa suit walking around my neighborhood waiving at the people and giving gifts out to the children. Again I could not believe my eyes and my default to today's society was wondering "what was the angle here?"

But there was no angle and it was just a very kind man who was more than generous to all. It made me wonder what kind of society we have become when we can even understand human kindness anymore. We suspect and do not trust and we look for the other shoe to drop even when people are barefoot.

I learn a valuable lesson this Christmas in that there is still some amazing incredible things to look forward to in the world and I am going to seek then all out one by one and enjoy every moment of it.

In my own eyes the world was meant to be balanced with a certain amount of "good" and "bad" (The bad outnumbering the good of course... or does it only seem that way?) and if everyone were to be as kind and generous as the people you described in your story the world would explode. But I'm drifting into the realm of philosophy now.

Regarding your comment, It's good to know you were impacted in such a way. Just reading it made me feel good. It's weird how a person's positive outlook can make a situation appear more hopeful to someone else. Thanks for sharing!

Well I am certainly glad to see that I could pass on the best of the feelings my experience gave to me onto you in your own way.

Random acts of kindness and stories of hope and love and positive re enforcement that world is not so bad, is something that will always keeps us smiling and give us all thoughts of the a better world maybe.

I do appreciate all that you have to say and thank you for your comment.

Thanks for sharing that. It's true; nowadays, the pervading outlook is one of cynicism. It's easy to forget that simple kindnesses and happiness still exists. Or is that how it's always been? I don't know, but it's a nice and timely reminder.

    • I am hoping the world was not always like this and if the world remembers a little kindness for each other then there is still a chance for a better world.

      great comment.
