The internet made my mind racist

For some reason, I think the internet has made me get a lot of racist feelings, since when I spend time online, comment sections and whatnot explode into racism at the slightest provocation.

I mean when I first started spending time online, I ran into a lot of things that would generally provoke racist feelings, such as people of certain ethnicities doing stereotypical atrocities. But even seeing countless videos and images of such I never had a racist thought. It was only when I started dwelling into the comment sections of such content, and they were inescapably filled with racists and such. After spending time around them, my mind started to make a lot of connections to race/ethnicity/nationality and now even the slightest bit of provocation can trigger a racist feeling. Of course, my thoughts are strong enough override them so they never go beyond feelings, but is it normal that spending too much time around racists started giving me racist feelings?

P.S. I don't want these feelings. They just occur.

Many racist comments online are probably just posted by bored people trying to stir up conflict.

You are weak minded, and follow what others say.

See, I said something and you immediately agreed with it. No debate, no discussion, you simply submitted.

You need a truly random sample so that you can find contraindications if they exist.

In this case, everyone would say it's normal. What we see on internet can deceive us to think anything about it.

  • I don't see how they make you racist, and if you don't like it, then stop spending all your time with a bunch of racists in youtube comments sections. They are obviously having a bad influence on you, and it's not like they are peer pressuring you into reading their racist comments.

    • I don't want to, but I find them everywhere online.

  • The conclusions you find yourself being drawn to may indeed be at least partially warranted. Just have an open mind and remember that not all truth is politically correct.

    • No. They were said by overly emotional bandwagon people who will jump to racial conclusions and didn't do their research other than some shocking videos (and not actual cultural research), and are typically unwarranted as far as my actual first-hand experiences with those ethnicities/nationalities go IRL. Also, those feelings aren't just "this ethnicity/nationality has traits like this and that", but actual "this ethnicity/nationality has traits like this and that and therefore they deserve to be hated/nuked/boycotted/massacred/etc". Political correctness is one thing but hate is another. I've always had some politically incorrect views of some cultures (even my own), but it never really crossed into hateful feelings.

Also, those feelings are often reverse-racist/reverse-xenophobic, and sometimes even lead me to become insecure myself.
