Hey OP and USA you almost put your finger on the problem. Unfortunately you won't see the tree due to the forest.
This is cancel culture at it's extreme, the US and somewhat the world as a whole need to start teaching and placing responsibility on the individuals.
From what I've heard this guy was actually in treatment for sexual addiction. I've heard it my self from counselors, if these vices didn't exist or were not so readily available then you wouldn't have the problem or it would be easier to break.
US has been doing this for the last hundred years or so.
Alcohol a problem, ban it or tax it.
Smoking is a problem, ban it, tax it or put it out of business.
You tried in the late 1800s and early 1900s to make sex a bad thing but that blew up in the 60s and 70s.
Obviously the war on drugs, banning didn't work so now let's try legalizing it and tax it.

You're working on religion and guns, with the newest ones being gas or oil, and conservative values.

When it becomes acceptable to shut down, belittle, make criminal, anything you don't like then it's just a small step to justify killing things you don't like or you feel is wrong, and shouldn't exist.

Look around, when it's acceptable to destroy your capital building, people's businesses, cities, cars, and lives in the name of what ever it is that you don't like, you are no longer a nation of laws or the free nation you were founded to be.
Learn to point that first finger at yourself, accept personal responsibility that you made that choice, and others will make choices you don't agree with.
Believe me I'm not just down on the US, Spain, Europe, and the world are doing the same but we are not the shinning city on the hill. We got where we are because we thought the government was our mother and father and should protect us or provide us everything we want.
Now we pay for it with 40 to 50% taxes, make $25 an hour and you still can't afford a car or house or a phone.

You're correct in seeing no logic in the asshole's rationale, and fact that you have problems comprehending his mindset is a positive thing. Those who can easily empathise with people who commit premeditated mass-murder very often have have serious issues of their own.

But you've very likely encountered people whose thinking processes are similar to the asshole's, even if the results of that were much less violent and dramatic. It's very common for people to avoid accepting responsibility for their own thoughts and actions by putting the blame on others.

If the early news reports about the guy are correct, he's a dim-bulb religious nutjob who experienced serious internal conflicts between his fundamentalist Christian indoctrination and his lizard-brain urges. A more rational person might have dealt with that conflict by recognising that the religion side of the equation is BS or maybe seeking help in controlling or at least accepting his urges as normal for a young man. But he decided that he'd go out and punish women whom he perceived as having made him feel and do things that he'd been raised to consider wicked.

Unfortunately, this is so common it's a cliché. Countless women have been harmed and murdered by men who blamed them for their sexual urges when these were in conflict with how religious leaders and some ancient text (often written by men who had their own serious issues with sex and women) said they should think and behave. Sex workers are particularly vulnerable, and there have been numerous cases of serial killers who have targeted prostitutes. Sometimes, that was a calculated decision by a psychopath who simply wanted to kill; sex workers are on the margins of society, they're often not missed if they disappear, and the authorities often don't put much effort into catching their killers. But often there's psychosexual stuff going on in the head of the killer, and he was dealing with his self-loathing by murdering the object of his lust.

It was probably a racially motivated crime.

Firstly it wasn't to do with race, they were all working at prostitution spas, spas he frequented. In his mentally ill mind, because he wanted to get rid of his sex addiction, he thought eliminating the people at the spas was the answer.

He was severely mentally ill, you're not going to understand because you aren't him. Mental illness is sad and scary because the brain is complex and once it gets to a point the logic doesn't exist anymore
