Thanksgiving is overrated

Reasons why I don't like thanksgiving:
1. It's all about the food, and I love food, but thanksgiving food just isn't that good, it's all a ruse. Turkey is bleh and makes me feel sleepy and no fun. stuffing is bleh. i stick the rolls and cranberry sauce.
2. Family! okay so i love my family, but only in small doces and/or taken one by one. all together for a whole evening?!?! eff no.
2. Colonial Americans ACTually killed the Native Americans!!! I'm half Native American and although we're not very outright about this (bc we like to keeps to ourselves) the whole thanksgiving day story (myth! actually) is offensive. it was made to try and pretend that we weren't all nearly murdered. The whole idea of thanksgiving vs. the reality of the situation and what actually happened is quite sick if you think about it.
4. I hate football. It heavily reminds me of our country's anti-intellectualism which i can't stand. So no, I will not sit around with a loud irritating group of family members, while helping to cook this big dinner, and watch a truly war-like GAME... and i'm an athlete, but wathcing proffesional sports?! no.
5. If we went turkey hunting together it'd be kinda fun, but we don't!
6. The preparation is KILLER! I always feel bad for whoever's house it's at.
7. It's an annoying reminder that REALLY some people are just there and loving it bc they hate loneliness and that fact depresses me. haha okay that might be weird of me.
8. Okay I lied, I actually really hate some of my family members and don't wanna around them.
9. Travelling back for Thanksgiving (which most ppl have to do) is a pain in the ass.
10. I just wanted to end my list on a nice round number like 10.
So are these thoughts/reasons normal?! Which ones do you think are or aren't?

It's not like anyone forces you to take part in a holiday, but do what you must. I personally love my big family, no matter how much drama there is or how loud we all get.

It is just a big crock of shit. They should teach school kids what really happened. And people are thankful or greatful for stuff all the time even if they don't realize it. We don't need a bogus holiday for that

'Tis indeed. But people just want an excuse to be with family and eat a TON. It's America.

You should listen to a song by a band called MDC it's called "Thanks for giving me what I didn't want"

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU..however I agree with another poster..

Thanksgiving IS also for giving thanks.

I and my mother dont even go to Thanksgiving dinner anymore because its such an awful experience. We hate our family and its just a waste of good time.

However, a few days before Thanksgiving I and a few friends from Highschool always get together every year and catch up. We really saturate ourselves with each other. Its NOT a time for food, football or bragging. Its a time to love each other.

We've been doing this for YEARS. And some of them I don't even see for the whole year. But it is nice to catch up.

all holidays are overrated. but i think its normal if you're one of those teenagers. honestly, i think you need to be a little more appreciative of it. thanksgiving was a celebration to god for helping the europeans survive the first year in the new world, and they invited the native americans. you're defying the whole purpose of thanksgiving. my advice to you, is to learn to give thanks for your family, and even those you dont like. be grateful you have a family to share it with, even if they are obnoxious.

Meh, any excuse for a holiday I suppose. We don't have it here though.

  • Actually the main reason why we celebrate Thanksgiving is to give thanks and appreciate what we do have and not just what we want and probably don't really need.
