Sympathizing with shooters

Let me just stress that I strongly condemn killing innocent, random people. However, I find it hard to not, at least a little bit, sympathize with these shooters. For the most part, a lot of these killers have been outcasts all their lives. They're constantly being rejected, disenfranchised, and being told that they're not good enough. If someone either kept or helped keep me down, I'd be happy to see them perish.

Killing random people because you're angry isn't fair. Like that kid who shot up a school cause no girls would have sex with him. Now a bunch of innocent people are dead and he's sure not gonna get laid now.

Fitting in isn't great anyway. It's just doing what other boring people are doing because it's easier than coming up with your own ideas. Where does it get you, in debt with a bunch of kids and a house you're stuck with.

Their life isn't fair either.. having sympathy for people who are sick is okay.

You would have sympathy for someone who murdered a bunch of innocent people because people were mean to him for being awkward? Would you accept being shot because a kid felt like he didn't fit in?

I don't advocate "fitting in" at all, by the way.

It is more complicated than just "not fitting in". You don't know the life of a school shooter. If you look at actual crime statistics on mass shootings/bombings/terrorist acts its very rare that someone like that is just a psychopath. Nearly all of them had a severely traumatic life that led them to be like they are.

I can understand the draw of just blaming the person who did it, and that's that. However, if we are ever to stop shit like that from happening we can't just kill the people who do it. That isn't preventative, and to create preventative measures we must have sympathy even for mass shooters.

you have a very shortsided view of how the world works.

That's not always the case about them though, and plenty of people under bad circumstances don't become violent.

I do naturally tend to be curious about their point of view though and the psychology behind it, so I get you.

Hmm, I really think it depends on the situation. In cases where it is later determined that the person responsible for the shootings had been emotionally tormented by the very people that he or she then chose to seek revenge against, it is understandable to feel some empathy for what they must have suffered through, and the utter desperation that they must have felt in order to resort to such drastic measures. Of course that definitely doesn't excuse the horrrible decision to take someone else's life, however, it does make you wish that they hadn't had to live such a painful life in the first place...
