Surely this can't be normal, but why is it the norm?

I work in retail.

If there is one thing I can't stand, it's when parents don't keep their children in check. They let them run around and throw tantrums and be rude or obnoxious. God forbid that another person tries to tell the parent to control their child; then it be world war 3 up in this motherfucka.

If people KNOW that their children are shits, why do they even bring the stupid things along?

I'm old school. When I was a kid if I acted as these kids act my Momma or certainly my Grandma would take that "switch" to my young ass. Most Moms and Dads today would never even think of doing such a thing. And a nosey neighbor would more than likely call the cops on them if they did. When I was a kid the whole neighborhood would hear me screaming when I got a good parental whipping. And they would respect the parent enough to know that I surely did something to deserve it too. Ah, but times were different then weren't they?

    • Same goes for me. My dad beat my butt shining red with a plank, rod, belt, shoe, anything he chose from his arsenal of destruction. And I knew I deserved that spanking because I knew I did wrong. That made me respect my dad and I ended up not doing bad things.
My mom was a little different. When she spanked me, it never stopped. Hits came from every direction and landed anyhere and all over. She didn't have my dad's meticulous precision. My mom beat the shit out of me and I hated that, but I damn well never did anything to get into trouble again.

While I MOSTLY agree with you, one of my sons has Autism, and occasionally "melts down" in public. This can't be avoided, and isn't a discipline thing (in fact if he realises one is coming now he starts asking to go home, repeatedly). To someone who doesn't know, it "looks" like a brat kid throwing a tantrum, but it's completely different.

I guess what I'm saying is that you need to be careful of passing judgement on a situation unless you know ALL the details.

Instances that you have described are rare though. I've worked in customer service for several years now, and in my experience the norm is that most people with misbehaving children just have bad parenting skills...

They should be made to wear shirts with targets on their backs.
The childless people can then rent paint-guns and hone their shooting skills firing at the little assholes.
