You think it's going somewhere, and wanting to be cute and witty you send his way a little joke about his field and he... simply doesn't fucking get it. Is it normal to lose some respect for people when they don't know essential things about their trade?
Maybe you know too much. Maybe you're just a but too obsessed with the culinary arts. Maybe you shouldn't even know what a Zagat is.
It's surprising how sometimes "essential" pieces of knowledge just pass some people by. It happens to me too, so I don't judge (I had to look up Zagat guide, but I'm not a chef).
Personally, I would probably let this small incident fester into a more generalised resentment of what I see as flaws in their character. But that is definitely *NOT* the right thing to do!!! So just dismiss it as "one of those things", or joke about it, and move on.
I don't even know what a Zagat is. If they don't get it then they don't get it. But if it is part of their job then I would admit that that is sort of odd.
Why does he have a field? Is that where he grows his ingredients? And why would you make fun of his field? It's just a patch of land. You'd never catch me making a jape about a meadow. Apart from this one.
