I’m going to be entering into a science fiction writing competition for young writers, with hopes of getting published. Thing is, I can’t think of anything to write about. Usually I can come up with something new and unique relatively easily, but I’m having terrible writer’s block. Anyone have any ideas or inspiration for a unique sci-fi story?
How about this for a story...
A 23rd century adventures of a powerful interstellar spacecraft dispatched by Earth-based Starfleet Command to explore the galaxy. A crew of 430 men and women aboard the starship, which can travel at speeds surpassing the speed of light. Their five-year mission is to seek out new life and new civilizations, and to boldly go where no man has gone before.
Does that sound great or what?
Slugs doing coke and redcover the meaning of friendship while poking fun at all aspects of humanity
Maybe a story about aliens who came to earth from a waterworld and began secretly building an outpost in the marianas trench?
The inhabitants of a small planet named Gorgothas have disgusted the overseer of their galaxy, Tytorithim, with their behavior. In rage, he slaps the planet out of his sight with his massive paw/hand. The impact of the blow kills all life on Gorgothas, but the planet spirals through space, and into the Milky Way.
It collides into Earth and fragments of the planet explode across Earth's surface. The impact shifts Earth on its axis, as well as causing a lot of damaged and death.
This also results in new elements and chemicals being introduced to Earth. Chemical compounds shift and evolve, resulting in odd changes to many things, including humans and animals. New, strange chemical compositions form. The nature of Earth is changed forever, and whatever cannot adapt cannot exist.
A pseudo-science backdrop for why Gorgothas went out of proper orbit would be more appropriate, but it was funner and easier to say it got bitch slapped.
Cockroaches develop resistance to pesticides. This combined with the fact that humans have disrupted the ecosystem by causing the extinctions of millions of animals, including their predators, allows their numbers to grow to an unnatural, horrifying extent.
From stores, to homes, to crops, to the wild the tapping, clicking hoards consume. There is no shortage of food for those who will eat anything. After the shuffling, dark sheets roll across a field neither farmer nor cattle is left.
Their numbers have allowed them to begin consuming live flesh by simply blanketing and devouring prey.

Humans discover there is absolutely no other life anywhere in the universe and that they miscalculated how quickly the universe is expanding. A couple decades later, all the stars are gone.

So there used to be magic people and humans living in tolerance of each, not quite together. Then some magic people decided that they deserved to rule and started a war with the humans. The humans won due to numbers and most of the magic people died because the humans felt unsafe living amongst them. One powerful magic dude fell in love with a human and that human got pregnant. The child was a magic child. The child's parents were killed by the people killing magic people. Some matter of years later the main character makes a friend and realizes their friend is being hunted by the government.
