Straight men and women's magazines

When I was at my local Walgreens today, I decided to check the newsstands for Field and Stream, a hunting and fishing magazine that I read on a religious basis. But then, something caught my eye. I decided to put the F&S mag down and plop open an issue of some female hairstyle magazine aimed at women and gay men. I also read Maxim magazine on a regular basis, but this time I didn't care for it. The cover of the magazine had a large montage of "sexy" and "sassy" female hairstyles including the one that Katie Holmes is now sporting. It said, "steal this sexy bobbed look from Katie," or something of that nature. BTW, Katie looks great. So I asked the clerk the price of the hairstyle mag, and she said $4.95. She didn't even flinch at the apparent title. To my dismay, I asked "But is it normal for a man as myself to purchase such a magazine?" She responded, "Oh sure, lots of men do this for some reason, including a few regular customers." I didn't feel right about my purchase. After my purchase, I just couldn't put the magazine down for some reason. There was nothing in it that would pique the supposed interests of a stereotypical straight man, yet it made me feel almost as if I were in love!!! After looking at the magazine, and hiding it from my girlfriend, it really gave me some interesting ideas on what I could do with her hair. Should I notify her of my feelings associated with this purchase, or would that just creep her out? Is it normal to feel this way? This has almost made me consider applying to a local beauty school for the heck of learning how to dress hair =) Never felt this way before. What would this particular incident indicate about me, psychologically speaking?

Well Katie Holmes probs has no hairstyle now, cos Tom forced her to shave it off for the greater good of scientology

    I read Cosmopolitan.

A buddy told me he learns lots about how to handle and understand women by reading Cosmo. I started buying it at WalMart a few years ago. Can only say wish I discovered this 30 years ago! Much of my current knowledge was gained through painful trial and error.

Women's views about relationships, and what they want/like in sex is all in there. What will work and what won't is discussed there.

For example, one article put men into 6 general categories based on their romantic style. After reading it, I said, "I just learned 5 completely new techniques!".

Reading "women's magazines" will make you gay or effeminate like eating bananas will make you turn into a CHIMP!

BTW, me and my friends are all 100%% straight. It's for information only.

there nothing wrong with it.... you just thought abt ur GF when u purchased it, and now want to try new things like dressing up her hair.... its ok... u should be worried if u found ur self wearing her clothes and trying these styles on u, instead of her, while she was out.

Well I have a secret talent an interior decorating, and otherwise I have no feminine side what so ever. Every guy has one feminine interest, so yours happen to be hair, just like the Zohan.

Mate your probably confused because today's culture pressures males into believing they have to be macho.

Don't think that it makes you gay or you have to be gay. Out gay people are more comfortable with who they are and don't care about comming accross a little feminine, that's why people associate males with a feminine side as being gay. It kinda sux but it's just because they are uncomfortable with them selves.

Normal, I am a straight man and I love to look at women magazines too. However I hide it just as you do. I have done so all my life, I can remember being about 5 or 6 looking at my mothers Cosmo book and all the models, cloths etc. I have a real good eye for womens fashion and hair....and yes I am totally straight. I just find the women in these books and the cloths and hair styles to be attractive and interesting. Not to mention damn sexy. To this day, some 40 years later I love thin women....

Are you freaking kidding. Some of those mags show women in the sexiest, sluttiest clothes or better yet ads wearing skimpy underwear. I thought I died and went to cameltoe heaven.

Maybe the magazine woke up the artist in you...or maybe the mag just inspired you because it was different from what you usually buy. If you're still interested in that, got for it, your girlfriend should support you.

It just depends on how you feel afterword. If you still feel as masculine as always, than that's fine. If you feel slightly imasculated, that's okay too if you're fully prepared for what may follow. I'm a straight man, and I often read Cosmo. Of course I do it in hopes of getting a better understanding of how woman think. (So far, nothing). But don't take sh*t from anybody just cause you read a woman's magazine.

Nothing wrong with that....just like a girl can be a tomboy and enjoy sports or not wearing makeup, or dressing in athletic wear....guys can be effeminate and enjoy reading women's magazines, getting manicures or pedicures or whatever and NOT be gay. Just like all tomboys aren't lesbians. congrats on picking up the magazine!
