Still love an ex you can't get back?

My girlfriend of one and a half years recently broke up with me. It was a stressful time for her; she was going off zoloft and didn't enjoy sex with me. It has been a while, and she still loves me even though she has a new boyfriend. She was my first love and I really miss her. I had the time of my life with her and we really had great chemistry. I want to be with her, but in the back of my head I think that it would never work out because I am a jealous person and couldn't deal with her at a different college, and a bunch of other stuff. It's really tearing me apart. Is this normal? If anyone else has been in a situation like this, do you have any advice?
