Still feel horrible for kicking my childhood dog out of the way

We had her since I was about 7... my last interaction with her was me kicking her out of the way (not hurting her though) because she was on the stairs blocking me and I was carrying luggage to my car. I was in a hurry to get to the airport. A few months later she died a slow painful death of liver failure while I was away at college. This memory has stuck with me for a long time. I wish I had just taken a few seconds to pet her and say goodbye.

The dog never really cared and forgot about the kick in probably seconds.

I'm sorry that was the last time you saw your dog. I would be upset, too. But try to think of the good times with your dog and forget about it. Your dog loved you and is in heaven and knows you loved him!

  • I'm sorry the dog died. I also have an extremely painful memory of a dog.

I'm sure this was not a significant moment in her life just think about her and what she enjoyed

Dogs were literally made to be "kicked around" by humans. I doubt it cared whether you kicked it or pet it, as long as it continued to be fed afterwards.
