Someone asked me out just to reject me, and i'm confused

Basically, someone who had been waiting ages to pluck up the courage to ask me out did, and then just rejected me when we met. He knew what i looked like and already knew a lot of personal things about me we had been getting to know eachother for a while. This was over the internet but we had seen eachother around anyway and had been speaking for months. When we met i eventually made the most basic move and got rejected, now i am being ignored. Either i read the signals wrong, or he changed his mind, but how can someone switch that quick after being so sure? any idea what the hell goes on in this guys head? help please.

    His expectations were probably too high. He may have thought you would be different and felt you "lied" to him about how you look or something.

    Online dating is mostly used for hooking up, and men who are in this stage of life are extremely supeficial and aren't looking to settle down.

    If you were everything he wanted appearance wise, it wouldn't have mattered what move you've made, because you're too attractive to turn down. Online dating sites can kill the self-esteem if you're easily charmed by every douchebag.

    believe me i am not unattractive. No one has ever called me ugly to date, i'm not fat either. So i'm trying to look deeper than that, clearly he is exceptionally shallow and something is amiss.
