Some things are offensive and should be canceled but maybe not

I understand both perspectives. Constant victims shouldn't be exposed to hateful ideas all the time; but I also think it could be a good idea to discuss all ideas and maybe learn from hateful words.

Things that are hurtful to opressed classes need to be canceled/censored 6
Nothing should ever be canceled/censored 18

I see cancel culture as a big problem. Most liberals seem ok with it now but it's gonna effect them in the future as well. I dont think ped0 stuff should be allowed to be posted on twitter but there was a celebrity who got lifetime ban for saying "if you have a penis you are a man" thats just ridiculous.

The new york post and white house speaker also got a suspension for posting a 100% factual article of Biden's son being on the board of a Ukraine energy company. I feel like we are going down the road of silencing anything that hurts those in power. Thats a big problem and dont get it twisted its gonna affect liberals too.

    Victims certainly exist.

But “constant victims“ don’t. Those are people who are addicted to getting undeserved sympathy and attention through straight up lying about abuse and misfortune.

And cancel culture is straight up garbage. If you don’t like something it’s on you to stay away from it, not ruin it for those that do. Luckily there’s a lot of pushback popping up nowadays.

If a conservative doesn't like a product or message, they simply don't buy the product or support the message.

If a liberal doesn't like a product or message, they will stop at nothing to destroy the reputation of the company involved.

In an ideal world cancel culture shouldn't exist for anything, because it's senseless and chaotic. I would personally love a world where there's a diversity of opinion. Where we can discuss anything from an intellectual or philosophical perspective

But we don't live in a vacuum do we? When serious issues affecting people's lives or with grave consequences are consistently not taken seriously, when famous people with a lot of influence and power abuse their podiums, when free speech isnt just an expression of opinion but often has a a malicious agenda or is dogwhistle... then you will give rise to desperate measures and necessary evils. And that's cancel culture. It's an autonomous monster

All these people being banned, apps being removed, books being censored, words being changed, content creators cancelled for understandable mistakes. It feels silly and unnecessary, but such collateral is what you get when you push an inherently tolerant society to the edge and leave them no choice but to become intolerant of the intolerant. And according to Karl Popper this is an inevitable.
