...And they reply with, "draw porn" (or create by other artistic means). How do you react?

Buy him/her some hentai books and give him/her something to aspire to. Keep the dream going.

I find it really hypocrite of society to shame people in the porn industry when almost ALL of them are watching it and quite enjoying it when they are in total privacy. However that wasn't the question, I'd ask him why ? If he truly likes that and it's hes kind of art I hope i'd be open minded enough to encourage him. Nothing hurts a child like feeling hes not good enough the way he is.

Drawing porn is actually a good business if you think about it. And don't forget it's just a kid. He/she may not even realise what they are talking about. If it is an older kid, ask why they want that and react depending on their reasoning.

I think porn doesn't completely deserve the bad name it gets, as long as it is explained it's a movie and not the real thing, in order to prevent false expectation about sex, i don't see how can it be harmful.

Off course there is porn, and there is gross crazy, illegal crap. But besides them porn is not that bad - industry like any other. People in it - nowdays - agree to do it, get paid for it, can leave at any given moment...
And drawing it don't even include real people.
Some Hentai even have good plot.
Depending on the type - it's not as terrible.

I'd tell them, they'd have to make do with watching cow porn, now get back to working the fields. :P

You are asking a kid this question and getting upset at the response? Ask again in a week and you'll probably get a different answer.
There seems to be nothing that a parent can tell a kid after they've reached puberty that will have any value or impact until the early 20's (if you are lucky), so lay back and watch the train wreck, just like your folks had to.

The situation is described in a very simplified way, and it is very far from being a realistic incident in my life.

Having said that, a reaction would depend on the age and personality of the child and additional contents of the conversation in which they proclaim this wish.

What I'm thinking would be a good reaction is to reply with an 'okay' or a 'really?', and if it is to be taken seriously, discuss some relevant problematic things about porn.

I have no problem with the sex industry, so I think I'd encourage them. Hopefully I'd be able to influence them to make porn in an ethical, socially conscious way. If they were before puberty I'd probably be surprised that they had that aspiration, but I don't think most porn damages kids who have reached puberty.

Why not? :P I might not understand their ambition, but a lot of people don't understand my ambitions either. Worrying about what other people think of you is a waste of time.

That was perfectly clear already. But "some people" evidently weren't paying attention.

I would wonder how I failed so bad as a parent, then the two of us would sit down and have a long talk. A VERY long talk.

THAT IS A TRAUMA RED FLAG!
This could be a serious issue especially if the child is young. Psychologist know kids, draw, act out, or act on anything they have seen or been involved with traumatically. I remember a case study where a little boy was being molested by his Grandfather and they found out because he was drawing porn. the parents had not shown him anything he was drawing in the home. If a young child tells you this look into it.

With teens it's most likely normal because they are old enough, to be making decisions towards what they want to do in life and most are probably watching porn anyway.

I wouldn't really care. I hate being "that person" that crushes others dreams or something, so I avoid it.

Depends on the age. 14? I failed as a parent. 18 or older? I mean...I don't really want to know what you do when you're by yourself but so long as it's not child pornography, go for it.
