So many metal sub genres >~<

It seems like everything has a subgenre now because just calling something Metal or Hard Rock apparently isn't specific enough. This doesn't bother me too much (except for the fact all these sub gebres end in -core -_- reaaaal original) as I kinda like to classify things myself but its gone a tad far really... but i'm curious as to what people think of these sub genres so pick your favorite Metal sub genre and any input you guys might have would be great (mines probably Metalcore, but its difficult to pick a favorite)

Metalcore 3
Post-Hardcore 2
Hardcore 0
Deathcore 2
Nu-Metal 3
Rap Metal 3
Funk Metal 0
Sludge Metal 1
Groove Metal 3

To my knowledge, metal sub genres don't generally end in 'core'. As far as I've understood, the '-core' sub genres are amalgams of metal and punk.

I think labels and categories are useful, if it's not overdone. I think it's a good thing that I can ask for a recommendation of a good thrash band, instead of only being able to ask about a good music band.

As for my tastes, I like death metal, and progressive (intelligent/creative/hard to play) metal music.

I wasn't referring to Metal specifically, I guess I should have elaborated

Put industrial in the description I'd probably enjoy it despite what a large range that can mean, I should check out some more industrial metal

Try Russian Circles, they do post-metal instrumentals.

I'm particularly set on this one at the moment:

To me, Ethel sounds like the musical definition of prevailing adversity. Powerful stuff!

I've actually heard of Russian circles before just not their music, cheers I'll check them out :)

I know I've been forcing them down people's throats on this thread but you should check out an album called sunbather by a band called deafheaven.

I'm off to check out Russian circles now.

Hm, quite an interesting recommendation there. I'll just come straight out with it, I don't care for the screaming. I can't understand what's being said. Some of their stuff was just too intense for me, it started to sound like too much noise with the constant drum rolling... It got very repetitive and several of their songs started off the exact same way. I was a little disappointed about that.

However, their drummer is really quite awesome! They do have a somewhat similar sound to Russian Circles too. I really enjoyed some of their slower songs on that album. Irresistible, Vertigo, the Pecan Tree (pretty epic, that one. Lots of elements that I really liked!).

          Thanks for the recommendation!

Do you understand and know what Metal is? Because you didn't even include Heavy Metal. Those you wrote are more like Metal-lites. Really, are you a troll for any reason?

It's a worm between two sideways pylons. Better not be doing some kind of worm summoning dark metal magic, OP.

I like dark metal, It's like a little cream, not too much sweetness. Not totally bitter and black either, balanced. Stay away from white metal if you know what's good for you. It's hot.

Definitely grindcore at the moment. I really like the energy and the busyness of the instruments. I can dig some djenty stuff, thrash and nu-metal, and some -core stuff too. I don't seek out technical music. Energy is one of the the most important factors to me in music, and it's the number one thing I look for in metal.

  • I like grindcore deathmetal and black metal the best. I prefer the stuff from the 90's. I'm in a metal band too that sounds like a mix of grindcore and black metal with industrial sounds. I'm in 7 different bands at the moment including my solo project. I've done every kind of music there is and don't like labeling everything because the best stuff cannot be defined.

Your solo stuff is distinctly experimental industrial.

this, no needs for labels, the label should be the band's name
