So is it normal to pay and now own it?

So my parents want me to pay rego for the car I drive (yes that would be fair enough) but they wont let me own the car because is "the stamp duty" they won't let me buy the car off them because of that..
Is that normal or???

Originally my parents but that was nearly 8 years ago.. they have paid the rego and 2 sets of tyres but I've paid for the rest of the stuff (services and for the repairs (my fault))

So they paid for the car and rego for 8 years and 2 sets of tyres and you're whingeing they won't transfer it into their name? Maybe that would be because in fact it's their car, not yours

I am willing to pay for it!! It doesn't make sense that I am willing to pay for it even though I don't have the money to but they are worries bout something so small like stamp duty... and besides then they won't have to pay for any of that themselves any more
And I'm not whinging I'm asking if it's normal or not!

You're right that something doesn't make sense: you're willing to pay for it even though you don't have the money to do so?

  • Why don’t they sell it to you for a $1? The stamp duty would be pennies.

Cause for some reason they don't realize stamp duty isn't that much really so..

          • Im sure you can find an online calculator you can show them. They may not want you to own it if you are under a certain age because the insurance may rise dramatically. In the USA drivers under 25 yo with their own car pay very high rates on their own insurance policy. You cannot rent a car on your own if you are under 25.
