So i'm a girl and i want to become a marine..

..Does that make me manly or something? I wear some makeup, I wear girl clothes, and I don't always wear my hair in a tight ponytail. I'm not labling girls who don't do this as anything other than a girl, I'm just trying to explain that I don't already act like a tomboy or anything.. Anyway so would becoming a Marine change people's image of me?

Maybe, depends. I notice a lot of people put doubt in straight females that are in the military, they assume we are going to get by through sexual advances and that we will "slut around".

I joined the army for a lot of different reasons. Somewhat I thought it would change the way people see me(in a positive way). But I've just seen people judge me more harshly, they tell me I look more like Air force material or that just because I'm not bad looking that I'm going to use my looks to get by.

Overall don't join for just that one reason that you want people to take you more seriously. People are always going to judge you and you have no control over it. Join it for yourself, if you feel its in your heart to serve your country and maybe even have it as a career in the long run go for it!

Just don't let others drag you down from what you want to do with your life, try to look past other peoples harsh criticism because there's always going to be someone like that. Hope it works out for you and good luck :)

    • What about during training? Did anybody--especially men--treat you differently?

I think that's awesome of you! I had friends that are pageant queens who joined the Marine's and love it! They're girly as ever and no one judge's them so I don't think anyone would judge you. Even if they did, who cares?! LOL Good luck! <3

you may find that while opinions matter, they really don't when it comes to service; you will become a tougher person if you finish training. Manly as in butch? nothing wrong with being a tough girl capable of holding her own.

If you joined the marines I'd think that you were retarded and bloodthirsty, but that's just me

You are who you are if people cant accept that its there problem and should not concern you, go be who you want to be and be proud of it.

Who gives a fuck what they think?

I think anyone dumb enough to join the army should be allowed.
