So i did ecstasy.

I was a foolish person for doing ecstasy at the age 14. I did it every weekend for more than a year (rave). I did other things also. (to hard to mention) Will I always not be happy since ecstasy permanently damaged my brain? I lost happiness, I always ache. I have been clean for awhile now. Don't give me insults at least I am clean. I just need advise on how I can fix myself. Don't even bother to comment if you don't know what I am going through. I know that I can't fully recover but anything will help. Peace. I know this isn't normal for a young person to do.

I am coming off valium, the most addictive drug there is. I am in a state of mental anguish, which sounds like what you have. All I can say is that I always try to make it to the next happy day, knowing it's statistically just a few days away or less...the anguish can't just go on forever. You'll be happy again. Don't look back; just know this: you'll always have a sunny day waiting for you as long as you're alive.

    • That really made my day. Thank you so much I could only smile at that last sentence. It was kinda touching?

Good luck on your come off. ~Pika

this is definitely good advice. though I would like to add a grain of salt in saying that valium, while definitely more addictive, does not induce long-term symptoms of depression in the same way that repeated use of mdma does. so if anything you are fighting a more uphill battle...be strong and things will get better :)

Currently there is no research that suggests that Ecstasy permanently damages your brain. It causes an increase in serotonin which will lead to a decrease in the serotonin receptors in your brain. Your body is always trying to maintain equilibrium, and if there is an influx of one chemical, it will decrease either your body's natural production of that chemical, or the enzymes that break down and process that chemical. It does not; however, kill of neurons which are irreplaceable (this would cause permanent damage). The receptors will grow back, but for heavy users, it can take a year or two for your brain to equilibriate. So don't lose hope. If you stay clean, things will get better. :)

This is false. There is a significant body of evidence demonstrating MDMA permanently alters serotonin function, affecting mood, memory, and executive functioning. For that reason, MDMA is one of the most dangerous and harmful drugs.

It's possible to recover full function after MDMA damage, though the brain will never function precisely the same way.

I don't wanna be the goody good here. And I'm not commenting to down you I really look up to you for trying to do the right thing. But all I know is pray to God and turn toward Him and people who bring you up instead of now. And that God will never leave you. Matthew 28:20. He gives you trials and temptions only that you can handle. He will never tempt you beyond what you can handle. 1 Corithians 10:13. I know several friends who are dealing with the same thing you are they are in my youth group. So I do understand although I've never personally been through it. And I'm not an old preacher or a old woman tryin to tell you your goin to hell bc I'm not judgin you. All sins are the same in the eyes of God no matter what. And I've had my fair share. Im a teenager. So good luck to you in the future and keep it up. God bless :)

don't buy in to that god bullshit man. you got everything you need and it's all in your mind!

our mind created god, therefore, mind>god

just don't do any more X. let your brain rebuild itself (it will)

your seratonin needs to be stabilized and you should start feeling normal again.

also excersize and eating healthy would be amazing for you

I have a friend who literally dug a hole in her brain from x and she has severely progressive multiple sclerosis. It's awesome that you are clean now. It will be okay.

14 is way too young to be doing drugs.. otherwise, i'd say it's not that big of a deal.. except for people with very addictive personalities.

I know exactly what you're going through, I had prescriptions for OxyContin and Xanax for years and I moved to a new state and never went to a dr to renew my scripts. The withdrawal was terrible!! The physical part took about 3-4 weeks (couldn't sleep AT ALL, cold sweats, can't concentrate, eyes couldn't adjust to light, diarhea, angry and violent, muscle spasms....) but the mental part took sooo long. It was about 6 months before I felt like my old self and could be happy or even just "ok" with regular old life. I really thought for a long time that I'd never be my normal self again and it was scary. It was very hard to go through it, my mind would make up every excuse or trick in the book to just get back on the pills or to go get methadone and it was sooo hard to resist!! It will get better. Literally one day you will wake up and you'll be "normal" again, it will happen, just stick it out.

Your brain just needs time to level out chemically and nothing but time can fix that.

    Good luck!!

You have used ecstasy so much that your brain has become dependent on it to create seretonin BUT slowly, over time your brain should figure out how to create it again on its own. It's the same as when people are on antidepressants and then get off and feel even worse... It will get better over time. For now just resist the urge to use ecstasy to feel happy again.

eventually happiness will come back, but fill up your time, stay busy and find something else to fill that void, a sport or something that you really enjoy doing and do it often. its a tough lesson to learn and sadly there is no turning back but just try to move forward

honestly i know how u feel, u even feel like that while ur rrollinn. if u ever payed attention u feel like a part is "missing" in the back left part of your brain... thats because it technically is.

though i dont have a solution for you. just another person out there going thru the same thing

Ecstasy makes your brain produce a lot of dopamine and serotonin while the drug is in your system. What you're experiencing now is the lack of those chemicals b/c your brain was not producing them naturally during the course of your drug use. After a period of time,( i have no specific numbers for you) your brain should go back to naturally producing dopamine and serotonin.

  • Hi, I've been in the same situation as you were.
I did lot's of speed and ecstasy at the age of 14-15, I was hooked on speed. i don't know exactly why but I stopped
I don't believe it damaged your brain, it's probably the side effects... after a long time of using it, i guess..
but Dont give up i promise things will get better if u see it in a positive way

If you really have stopped it and hope for better things to come to your life, you can be happy. But don't wait for it to arrive, search it.

A doctor MAY feel the need to micro-manage the situation because you are young and I imagine that it is hard for them to believe someone who has used is truly off the stuff. I would LIKE to see you go to a doctor because they could help you find out if you really did mess up your hormonal balance, but, depending on your age, they'll likely have to share this information with you parents. I don't know what kind of parents you have but I don't necessarily want to see you being thrown in rehab because everyone around you blows everything out of proportion. My reason is because often when people are labeled with a problem a real problem manifests.
I think if would be good for you to find natural, healthy ways to increase you endorphin and serotonin production--our natural happy drug (which you may have temporarily messed up. As someone else already stated exercise and a healthy diet can go a long way. Also consider meditation, actively searching for things that (at least) make you smile...inspiring music, encouraging stories, art, dance...anything like that really. Your brain diffidently has the ability to heal itself and you can find ways to speed up that chemistry and feel a little better in the meantime.

Apparently I don't like adding an 'r' to the end of your.
      :)
Also, I don't know what kind of music you are into but Ronald Jenkees' music has been SUPER encouraging to me these last couple weeks--you can find him and other people's uploads of his music on youtube.

I did it a lot when I was 15 and 16, but only once a month. you gota be careful it kills all your happy chemicals. I just try to enjoy life to the fullest. no point in feeling down all the time. it;s a waste of life and time. just force the happy out. smile, dance and have a drink

I had this EXACT same thing happen to me. I promise, promise, promise things will be normal again. If you have anxiety, seek treatment for that it will help. Just you need to have a positive mind set, it will speed up the process I guarantee.

    • How can I tell my Doctor about these things? do I straight up tell them? I Don't look like a person who would mess with those kind of things. Maybe a little weak looking but nothing bad. I have anxiety. It is awful. Will they prescribe me something to help? Sorry I don't go to the doctor very often.
