So goddamn scared of sharks

if i even see a picture of a shark whether it be a cartoon or real, i feel like fainting or having a panic attack. sometimes when im in the shower ill imagine myself in a shark cage and i feel like the shark will come out of the drain or through the shower curtain. another instant scare is cold water on my face, i just feel like there are sharks everywhere. even if i look at the carpet and theres patches of carpet rubbed the wrong way, ill feel like it looks like a shark, and ill have to walk on the counters or stay on my bed or raised surfaces away from the floor/water. am i crazy?

This is a mega phobia. My best advice to you would be to face your fear though. I know it won't be easy, but try to think practically first. A shark, or any fish for that matter cannot live where there's no water. So there's no logic in being afraid of the carpet. And sharks aren't relatively small creatures, so there's no reason to believe they're in the shower or coming up/going down the drain. Also, I don't think it's possible for there to be a shark in your house because they don't just leap out of the water to come after humans. Have you ever heard of an escaped shark from a zoo? Neither have I. So, relax, there are no sharks in your home.

If you're that scared of sharks you have "Selachophobia"

It's a serious fear and I think perhaps one of the more rational fears because sharks can be very scary. But then again they can also be very peaceful creatures.

I suggest you talk to someone about it. Don't face your fears until you are under the care of a doctor because those symptoms you exhibit could be serious and sound a bit irrational.

You never know you might one day decide to face your fears and get a serious panic attack, which are no fun. I have had them before.

But my best advice is to talk to a doctor ASAP.

i am terrified of sharks as well. whenever i see them on the national geographic channel my anxiety levels rise really high. i would never pass the low part of the sea cause i fear there might be a shark lurking in the deeper waters. it is completely normal to have these phobias.

I have a friend who is exactly the same, except minus the walking on raised surfaces... She can`t even take baths because she feels like a shark is going to come out of the tap/drain. Every one has different phobias I guess.

Oh you are not crazy,in a matter of fact,i do the exact same thing.I get terrified at shark pictures or anything that involves sharks!I hate when i take a shower and then the rug underneath it looks like a shark in my mind.I have these exact thoguhts about the shark in the shower and my dad tells me that the family is going swimming in the ocean to go scubba diving but i have never done that and im like "HELL NO!" sharks are very creepy and you're not crazy, its just that we are terrified of sharks.

Haha don't worry your not weird.
i live in new zealand and when i was little i used to go out on the boat fishing with my dad..off auckland the water can carry some great whites and we saw one, not very big mind you but i was so scared i wouldn't swim in open water anymore.
Anyway i didnt go out on the boat for about 2 weeks i think.. my father had enough of it and forced me to come out on the boat, he made me talk the whole time to keep my mind off it and i was fine when we where coming back in he said i you have more important things to worry about sharks are not even half as bad as boys.. to this day the shark association makes me laugh now everytime i see a shark i get the giggles.. facing your fears is really healthy for you
