Sleep anxiety?

At night I can never fall asleep right away. After hours of laying awake will I eventually go to sleep, no matte how tired I am. I feel like it might be because I'm scared someone will break in during the night but I can exactly pinpoint why. Is this normal?

What is normal is taking about 30 minutes to fall asleep.

I go through phases where even if I'm tired once I settle down for bed my thinking kicks in a mile a minute and suddenly my sleepiness is nowhere in sight. Lately what I've been doing is turning a lamp on and for some reason it allows my head to settle and I'm dozing off a few minutes later. Other times though reading something will put me right to sleep. Part of the problem with insomnia is that your head actually gets USED to not being able to sleep once its time for bed and it affiliates your bed with a place it won't/shouldn't be sleeping in.

You're safe. It's just anxiety. I usually have trouble falling asleep because I worry about how my life will pan out and such, it's quite a drag but yeah, it happens :-/

I'm not scared anyone will break in, but unless I work like hell that day, I usually lie awake till like 7 in the morning, then crash till 10

I have severe insomnia, and take medication for it. It took several different ones before I found the one that works for me.

It might be something like insomnia and an overactive brain. Like, you lay awake and, since you can't sellp, your mind just wanders to what could happen. =/

Try doing something before you get in bed or something while you're in bed that helps you fall asleep. Try some different things every night. Maybe trying sleeping with your socks on, sleeping up-side down, or whatever.

Try talking to someone about how you feel like the doctor they may give you something to sleep or you should talk to a counciller about your anxiety or try a book I bought from amazon 'overcoming anxiety disorder'
