It could be a combination of both. I believe it is your matress. If you are able to flip it or rotate it, I would recommend doing so it won't cost you a dime amd get help flipping it so you won't hurt your back further. If that doesn't work, then I would suggest more costly actions such as new mattress, pillow, chiropractor and so on. Try the simplest thing first and then move to more drastic measures. Hope this helps.

Could be the way you sleep, your mattress, pillow(s), etc... So maybe you should start off by buying a GOOD pillow. If that doesn't help, try a mattress. And go from there. Good luck!

    Just go to a Doctor.
Besides, it is preferable to sleep on the your right side and to put your palm under your face.
Try it. This is the way our prophet Muhammad used to do.

It may very well be your mattress. If it's old and stiff, there's no support. Look into getting a new one! I don't know where you are financially but I have a memory foam mattress and I love it. If you're looking for something a little cheaper, the newer pillow top mattresses offer more lumbar support. Foam is really the way to go in my opinion, though, because it really molds to fit your shape.

Also, try not to sleep all twisted up. Keep your spine straight and get a pillow with good neck support.

      Yes! I agree with this!
My back kills me because of my old mattress. I really want one of those memory foam ones. At the moment, I roll the duvet underneath me so that it's not so hard on my back when I sleep.

I prefer to sleep on my side, as I find it more comfy and apparently, it lessens the likelihood of sleep paralysis. I usually just put a soft pillow at my waist for more support. I also sleep with duvet/a pillow between my legs sometimes. Is that weird? I dunno lol. It's just how I get comfy.

No, I'm the same way! I always sleep on my side with a pillow in front of me so I can cuddle with it and put my arms around it. I sometimes sleep with a pillow between my legs, too. Since I always sleep on my side, sometimes my hip joints become uncomfortable, so an extra pillow helps support them. If I can't go to sleep in this position, with a fan or some ambient noise in the background, I cannot go to sleep!

About the memory foam, it's AWESOME. There are cheaper ones you can get, though. I mean we can't afford a $2500 Tempur Pedic so you can get the off-brands and they're just fine. I think we paid like $600 for ours and it's a queen size. OR overstock.com has the Serta memory foam mattress toppers and they're like $100 and get great reviews.

I have heard many people talk about this same thing. If your back kind of wakes you up ...or you feel like you just can't lie down any more. And if it goes away after getting up and walking around a little bit, many say that it is arthritis which causes your back to be "stiff" after being in a lying down position all night. Some say more stretching and exercising during the day helps.
