Patriotism isn't my cup of tea. Why strive for equality when being from somewhere else makes you different?

I'd sing the earths national anthem, if it existed.

I like my country (Britain) because of all the opportunities it allows me, because it's populated by people I can communicate with, because I've grown up here and my family is here. I'm surrounded by the country I belong to virtually every hour of my life.

One theme composed by someone I can't remember and played by a group of people I don't know doesn't express my feelings of national identity, and neither does the act of standing up when it's being played.

I always stand during the national anthem and I'm not an American.

Other - it's OK if you are in a wheelchair or unable to stand. Otherwise get off your ass.

Americans aren't the only people that stand up for the anthem...

Who says you have to respect your country and flag regardless of whether or not you agree with your government's actions?
I served five years in the military. I will not stand, I will not put my hand over my heart, and I will not give a fuck. Not until our country unfucks itself.
I will rip the lips off of any bastard who dares question my decision, because odds are they've never even voted with the exception of a presidential election, and even then they voted for who they were told to vote for.
So many people are just indoctrinated from a young age to feel blind patriotism, instead of thinking for themselves. It makes me sick.

Freedom is freedom; nobody should be "forced" to do something unwillingly.

I think it's not ok, no matter where you're from, the curteous and respectful thing to do is to stand during any national anthem no matter what country you're in, whose anthem it is or what your nationality is.

I don't do it because it seems like a meaningless ritual to me. I get kind of an eerie feeling when I'm in a large place and I watch 1000s of people all stand and almost compulsorily place their hands on their hearts. I wouldn't mind it some much if it didn't seem like you HAD to do it. Same goes for the pledge of allegiance.

I think we maybe on something big here.....

Considering how we love patriotism and food - why don't we play the national anthem for an hour or so on repeat and have our obese population stand to it. It might be the only form of "exercise" our fellow Americans can endure.

Because I'm quite patriotic I always stand when I hear God Save the Queen/Jerusalen. I think staying seated is fine as long as you show respect!

I'm American and the national anthem is probably the gayest song I've ever heard.

I stand whenever anyone's national anthem is playing out of respect, but in the United States, it's required by law to stand for the Star Spangled Banner.

The law specifically states that men (and only men) have to remove their hats, and anyone in uniform has to render a salute. The law was recently amended to allow veterans out of uniform to salute the flag, but the law does stipulate that if no flag is present, that everyone is to face the direction of the music and act as if they were facing a flag.
