Singing all the time

Hello everyone,
I only listen to very upbeat, catchy pop songs and I can't live without music. When I don't play any music, I begin singing. I sing non-stop, whether I am studying, surfing the Web, or cooking, and there is always a song playing in my head. It's very annoying and I think it interferes with my learning and prevents me from being successful at school. I also love recording my voice on the computer and playing with different voice editing programs to enhance my voice. Is this normal, and how do I stop it?

Well, first, STOP IT! Don't keep singing when you are studying or in class or at the movies. It is inappropriate and yes, it interferes. Let it go back into your head. Picture yourself turning down the volume, and get back to work.

I have a "radio" in my head, and sometimes I don't know why they seemingly randomly play. When I am involved in a task, the volume goes down and I focus on the task (but the music is still in the background).

When I am alone and uninvolved with reading or interacting, but perhaps doing the dishes or shopping, I notice I'm humming along or whistling (which really annoys people and causes wrinkles, so I stopped that mostly).

Other times I'm just mentally singing along. I find it is great entertainment and fun, and I really like what my internal radio comes up with.

I am a trained singer and soloist, so I have a great repetoire in my mind. Further, I listen to all sorts of music -- a broad spectrum -- so I have a vast collection in my brain to keep me entertained.

But I think the trick is to consider it a gift, and learn to turn down the volume. And, when you start singing while you are studying or somewhere where it is inappropriate, STOP! Break the habit. But don't lose the joy of the music in your head.

Oh hahaha!!i'm stuck in the same crazy boat right here.Except it can be any song from the 60s-80s...and i'm just a kiddo. And why whould you want to stop something as gloriously moronic or cool as this? It's a gift if you do it good.Or it's real funny if you do it right. Now if you make people's ears bleed...then that's something you need to check.

  • Sure - radio head - me too. Why fight it like that is a bad thing? To me it suggests you have a strong sense of musicality and rather than deny it could give yourself expression. Bird gotta fly, fish gotta swim ...

I liked the suggestion you take up music, singing or playing an instrument. Take lessons. Enjoy it.

I do that because I love it! And you don't have to play an instrument for any other reason. Maybe you'd be better able to focus on other things if you scratched your musical itch.

I do this too. I think it's okay. Why would you want to stop a gift?
    Pshaw..................

I always have a song in my head too but I make an effort to not inflict my voice on others.

My mom sings all of the time and drives me insane.

It's rude as hell to sing out loud around other people, it doesn't matter if your voice is beautiful - it's still annoying.

    SHUT UP

You might want to consider having a career in music. I'm a choir director/ voice teacher and I am kind of like that, too. :)

Singing is honestly great :) It releases emotion and all that. I love it, and so should you :) I wish more people would sing just when they felt like it and not have inhibitions. Music is just like my life :)

Whats wrong with singing all the time. and according to some research done... somewhere which i read in reader's digest (therefore proving that digests are unhealthy tools of knowledge since they only provide small snippets of info) doodling in class is excercising with yr right, while yr paying attention with yr left.sorta applies here since its aestatics. and that surprisingly improves concentration! at least thats the scientific backup i give when my classmates grumble that i sing too much in class. its a gift to retain earworms and blurt them out ok :) and why try to stop it when u love music. you cant hide whats inside. so be proud of who u are and enjoy yr singing. yr expressing society with yr mouth :)

I think this sort of thing should be classified as a disorder. I can relate, but I got over it. If you use drugs and alcohol, leave them alone. I know your friends mean the world to you, but you're headed for the wrong planet if they keep you from getting necessities done. Focus on the necessities first. Being homeless is neither fun nor romantic.

I too have this problem, I permanently have a song playing in my head and I'm usually singing it. At first I got pretty freaked out and had trouble sleeping, but eventually I just got used to it. Its like I have a personal ipod in my head, and I can change songs easily, like nothing gets stuck anymore. I have come to realize it isn't a problem, and if you just accept it its actually a good thing.
