Should they have warned me?

Ok, so this is a follow-up to a question below about an abusive exboyfriend.

So basically, this guy was very abusive to me (name calling, fat shaming when I was near anorexia, threatening to leave me, and occasionally threatening me with violence.)

We were 20, he lived with his parents (it's normal in our country), and they were perfectly aware that he was awful to me and that I seemed very unconfortable, although of course he hid the worst of it when they weren't there (worse name calling/threats)

The relationship was short, but if they were at least somewhat aware that they're son was a monster or being one to me, shouldn't they have at least tried to tell me to leave when we were alone together?

Seriously? I think you just need to leave an abusive person.

Unfortunately it's common for parents to take the side of an abusive son and I guess in the end you did leave him, didn't you?
